Just seen an add for a 15.3hh 5yr old well bred mare. She's qualified for 2nd rounds in BN, Disco and Newcomers, and jumped 2 DC's at Fox.

How much would you expect something like this to go for? Sound, good movement, nice looking horse by the looks of her ad....

a lot. its 5... so plenty of years left and done a lot already

im not 100% on price as i could never afford a big expensiev horse like that :D

claire, I know, but SERIOUSLY!? A friend has one similar, but he's a boy and an inch bigger and she wants 50k+ for him.... he's done a lot of the champ shows though...

She would have been exactly what I was looking for had I been looking ;)

I know but at 5... so could market as a potential eventer as a serious potential intermediate horse...

yup i agree but as its currently under SJer-ad - that would be my 1st reaction:a 5yo whos done so well getting 2nd rounds up until Fox (yet has done them) you'd think you would keep it a tad longer:confused: esp as rider looks like a pro to me- i don't know i just always treat things like glass when things seem too good ;)

Cant see anything from that that would put me off... no mention of vices or anything..

Hmmm... maybe it is just no jockey so they need rid ASAP otherwise she'll be a seen from field type job??

wow!!! by 5 its jumped 2nd rounds through the grades up to and inc fox, so *cogs whirring* she done all that in just over a year?????????????????????

thats alot isnt it, if shes sound or mind and body(hehe) ect then shes a potential serious show jumper right???

She hasn't jumped 2nd rounds, but has qualified, so has got 4 DC's at BN, Disco and Newcomers. She started jumping competitively in May according to the ad... pretty good going..

I don't think that is *cheap* but reasonable and it is great that prices are going back down to proper levels again. NC is 1.10m, that is no great height. A well built Fox is a decent size, and prob at the limit of the horse's capabilities and therefore it is prob not a young rider horse. So I think it is correctly priced, and nice to see the owners are not being greedy IMO.

Would I buy it? Nope, bit too much done for me.

Hmm, not sure if I agree with you there Weezy! :D I agree 1.10 is nothing huge, however in the grand scale of things there aren't many horses which get DC's that easily, especially at 5... there are plenty of horses out there that have done less and are probably more limited and are being sold for a lot more... so if they're selling, then I don't see how people putting those prices on them is "greedy"... :)

Obviously its very subjective, but based on my anorak like knowledge of horses selling on a similar level :D

Umm Im not sure if I have been lucky but just found a lovely 4yo gelding 16.1 holstien breeding for a friend. Totally sane with lovely can do attitude and has double clears at 1.10 with scope to burn and £150 BS winnings in nine outings for £3600 and yes he passed a full 5 stage vetting.......... Now thats what I call a good buy! Hes in the field having a holiday now with a view to eventing next year.

But Kat you don't know that he got them easily.... ;)

Yes there are horses being advertised for more money when they have done less, doesn't mean they are selling for that price. Fact is horses got to a ridiculous price IMO, and now are coming back to where they should be. Sub 1.20m horses really shouldn't cost more than £8k IMO.

I'm not really into BS so I wouldn't really know what pricings are like. But I looked at the advert and I really did expect it to be more, but are people finally pricing a little more realistically?

Hhmmm... I am also a bit of an anorak here and much depends on how many times the mare has jumped. May was 6 months ago and she might have jumped 4 days a week since then or instead just be very, very careful. I guess I might worry about how much she has done but I'd ask the owner and hope I liked what I'd heard.

The main photo doesn't inspire me as her head is up and she doesn't look as though she is about to make a nice shape but if she is jumping DC at Fox then she is very fairly priced IMO.

Wait till I post about our 16yo Grade A who is jumping 1.30's and ask how I should value him as considering selling him.... that will get an even more mixed response, I bet!

.

this is what i thought...yes thats impressive for a 5 year old BUT it could be that she's competed a LOT to get those DCs... maybe not though. I have to say i personally wouldn't buy something that had done that much as a 5 year old but thats just my personal opinion on it...

no I agree there are a lot advertised that wont get the asking price, but I know half a dozen horses who have sold for 4kplus more than that mare and would be similar on what theyve done. As you say, you'd want to know how many outings it had had! ;)

Just found the add and it's location says "south west" but from the pics I can tell they are way down in Cornwall. There are some amazing lovely talented horses down in Cornwall but hardly anyone will bother to travel that far so they are ALAWYS a few grand cheaper then up in central England. Also she couldn't have jumped lots as there just isn't that many shows down that way either! ;)

I am obviously missing something then! To me a 5 year old who has done that and been produced properly and not over faced then i don't find that a bad thing. Jumping double clears is far better than racing round and winning small classes. Both my 5 year olds were jumping up to that height and that is with me an amateur! The market has dropped and horses are not selling for the prices they were a couple of years ago. You never know they could have got her cheap done their bit and be selling her on at a profit that suits them. Why hang on to a horse for more money and end up spending lots more when you can move them on quickly? I would also think she would be ideal for a rider off ponies being that height and that pony riders are moving onto horses now.

I also don't get the thing about travel, i went to the Czech Republic for one of mine, if you like the sound of something surely you will travel to see it?
