What a day! I took Jerry to a pleasure ride today in aid of Help the Heroes. The Household Cavalry were there with 16 horses. It gave me goosebumps but made me feel very proud to watch them!
Anyway, Jerry could hardly contain his excitement, this is our first organised pleasure ride so even though we waited til the initial rush to get off was over, Jerry still took off rearing, bucking and plunging. Somehow I managed to stay on board!
Then, after about the first hour, he started to settle down and we actually had some fairly controlled canters around some lovely countryside. There was one part that was REALLY boggy in a wood that was pretty scary as Jerry sort of fell in the bog up to his middle (he's 17.1hh!) and struggled to get out for a few seconds.
Apart from that incident, we had a great time and hopefully a lot of money has been raised for Help the Heroes!

A big clap and well done for you and your horse

And you should be very proud of your cousin. Seeing those great young men and their beautifully turned out horses (who had travelled up from Windsor to the Midlands this morning) actually brought me out in goosebumps - I was SO proud to be British

All credit to the 16 year old girl who organised today's event in memory of her cousin who was killed in Afghanistan.

It would be great if it was an annual event as it is so local for me. I don't suppose the Household Cavalry would be able to come every year but it would be good to do it as a regular fundraising event. So long as they miss out the boggy track in the woods next time!!
It always amazes me how different familiar countryside looks when you go off-road across fields that you have never been across before - it gives a local familiar view a whole new perspective!!
Edited to add - there were over 150 horses taking part today so hopefully they will see this as a good way to support a worthwhile cause!
