Wow what a memorable show!

And the stitches came out today as well.

Much less colors and more healing..

I got very lucky and was able to get an appointment tomorrow with my neurologist so he can be in the loop on my brain's newest activity. Not expecting much but wanted to take the time to check in and make sure that he's able to stay updated on my brain happenings.

Glad the stitches came out and I hope you are feeling much much better. Hopefully everything goes ok at the appointment and sending you lots and lots of healing vibes.

I have a Mips helmet and TBH it did take a while to get used to but I would be frightened now to ride without it.

After seeing other threads on here on really really expensive helmets and how they give little or no protection on a second impact, and the abhorrent responses from the manufacturer, it made me reconsider what I was wearing on my own bonce.

Glad I have MIPS.

OMG what a terrifiying thing to happen

When you see people sitting around the edges of arenas I do think that it wouldn't take much for them to be in the way. I guess you were lucky really, the scar should be hidden by your eyebrow hopefully :)
When I broke my wrist at the end of Aug, I was sitting on the grass waiting for someone to be able to take me to A&E. The xc lesson was continuing, but well away from me. As they moved from one area of the course to the other the group stopped by to check how I was. I was thinking I felt a bit vulnerable sat on the grass with the horses a few meters away when one of the horses got his martingale stuck in his mouth, panicked and reversed at me at speed. Had I not done a (rather impressive if I say so myself) commando roll out of the way I would have had more than a broken wrist to worry about!
Next time (if there is one) I'll pipe up.

Just so I'm clear this horse was in an enclosed arena. I was outside of the in gate and those gates were closed.

The horse was at a full gallop when he jumped the closed arena gates and indeed cleared the pvc fence line perpendicular and behind to the gates as well. I was just in the wrong place. But I would say that 99 times out of 100 the horse loose in the arena would have continued around the turn rather than to jump out at steeplechasing speed.

Here's a link to what the In Gate looks like if you're in the arena and looking out to the warm up arena. https://carlmichaelbehr3rd.tumblr.com/image/161549958285

The horse cleared the right side gate and the right side fence line behind it before falling on landing. I have no recollections exactly where I was but I think also on the right hand side based on a picture a friend gave me of where my pool of blood is on the ground.

I wasn't saying you were stood in the wrong place (well in this instance you were, but that was a freak accident, no fingers can be pointed at you)
Someone else raised the issue of people sitting in vulnerable places and I was just adding my story
I hope you heal well and are back to 100% asap.

No worries. Was just clarifying that this is a solid perimeter arena. Typically they're aren't unsafe areas around it. Of course I figured out a way to be in what would become an unsafe place.

But by and large our bigger show grounds are not lacking in the solid boundaries. That was just my point. And absolutely I found the loophole.

Your wound looks really good for such a short time. You must heal well :)

It was my comment about arena fences🙂 and I was kind of just pondering on the type we often have at eventing in the UK, ie roped off, and people (kids) often sit around the edges, almost in the arena.

Weirdly, I came off my horse at the end of July for this exact reason, she caught her jaw on her breastplate, panicked, reared/spun, I tried to jump off and landed on hard ground on my backside. Fractured vertebra :(
Only got back on this week......hope your wrist is healing too :)

Sorry. Meant to swing by this week and update.

We're pretty much fine. I am cleared and done all of the physical and occupational therapy for the head injury part of the accident. I am still in physical therapy for the shoulder injury part of the accident.

In a total abundance of caution, I am choosing (with Dr's input) not to ride again until my shoulder is a bit better. I could ride, absolutely, but on the off chance that something unusual happens and I would need to suddenly pull hard on the right rein, I would be in trouble. The outward and back motions of my arm are still ouchy. To be a tad clearer, the MRI was clean as were the x-rays, but there is deep soft tissue bruising compounded by a muscle strain on top. So nothing that sounds bad but it sure does feel bad. Physical therapy is helping though and we're only on the second week of that. (Had to wait longer to get MRI done and couldn't start therapy before that was done)

The horses have all been just given time off, which has made them happy as can be. They're fat...and fuzzy and loving that I come and give them meals, treats and turn out and bring in. I have also not been cleared to muck, though this week I am trying it a bit. Soooo that's been fun. I am paying a couple friends to come do it for me.

So not a lot to report back on. Not much going on and honestly just some frustration at doing nothing.

One of these days we'll get back on track but not until I can do a lot more with my arm. Oh but my head/scar looks AMAZING. See pic below.
Pics of the boys too so you can see their growing bellies!!!
