I decided to take our 13.2 out showing today to do an in hand veteran class. He's 21, and I have certainly never done any showing with him before, and I am not sure he would have done any with his previous owners, so I really just wanted to test the water and see how we got on.
Despite being a bit of a diva, he isn't desperately keen on having a lot of fuss made of him and isn't really fond of baths. Do you think he enjoyed that?
I plaited him last night as it was an earlyish start and we only managed to fall out a few times. However he refused to pose with his plaits on display, so here is a picture of the other side of them.
We set off early, leaving all other occupants of the house asleep, but the sun was shining and to be honest it was lovely to be up and out. I got him ready, and then we waited, and we waited, and we waited some more until the classes before us finished. Luckily we found a shady spot, but he was a little perplexed that there was lots of lovely grass, but he wasn't allowed to eat it.
At last we were able to go in. There were all sorts in the class including some real golden oldies, and lots of lovely horses and ponies. I couldn't believe it when the judge pulled us in in first place! Cue big smiles and actually a little bit of a lump in my throat.
Then we went into the championship for the Youngstock, M&M, Coloureds and Veterans, and we were pulled in Reserve Champion below a very nice Fell (I think, I should have asked, but I was dumbstruck). The judge said Raffles had good conformation, was foot perfect in the ring, moved beautifully and was a credit for his age. So in addition to our lovely first place rosette, we won the biggest rosette I have ever won! Perhaps this is the start of a new career for him.
So pleased with my pony, can't stop smiling.
