It's really warm here, Parker would be out naked but has a light weight and fleece on as not sure what time I'll be up there in afternoon/evening, and he's clipped. Tango, clipped out warmblood out naked though.
I've been putting beau in his HW turnout with MW stable rug underneath at night as its -4 or -5 up here, but they cant seem to remember to take it off(despite note left on the board where they are meant to be!!) when he goes out so he is cooking during the day
It was -5 when I went to work at 8.10am this morning.
Dexter was in a bib and 2 heavy weight neck rugs last night! And prob will be all week if this keeps up. Spider just had a bib and a heavy weight as all her clip has almost grown through.
Yes. The weather this winter has been very bizarre. We have already had one Melt this winter, and now looks like we are going to have another. Whether winter is over or not, who knows.
I am looking out of the window and to be honest, it looks like England! Very damp and grey.
Here in the Highlands none of our natives or cobs are rugged, and it's been sub zero at nights for weeks. Even my son's British Riding Pony only has a mid weight rug on. As long as they're fed enough (and are not clipped) they cope fine.
I feel mean now but mine are both just clipped on the neck and chest and only have fleeces on at night and lw turnouts in the day or both went naked yesterday as it was warm in the sun - dont seem to be suffering by it though so i suppose do what suits yours. Mine is a tb x id and daughter has arab x trotter 50/50 (try getting the bloody thing to canter !!)
It was -7 this morning in Derbys and even the water in my boys stable bucket was frozen over! He had his mw on and was lovely and toasty! He never seems to need any more than that...think he spends so much time munching his body can't get cold because he has all that hay to process through!!!!
My mare and foal are wintered out - obviously they are naked but with a field shelter.
They have loads of hay and are warm as toast. We put hay in the shelter and hay in the field and guess which hay is always all gone and which they have only picked at?
My boy (warmblood rising 2) is out naked 24/7 at the moment. We did have a MW wug on him (from November - 2 weeks ago) when it was really wet but since it became dry he loves being naked and it's like having a different horse so he's staying naked until he shows us that he doesnt like it or we come up and he's really cold. Having said that the field has lots of grass, is surrounded by shelter and he is getting lots of food and has a really thick coat (1-11/2" thick) so he's well protected.

Yep, horses are FINE in minus temps, people forget that horses are designed for living out in all weathers
My 2 natives are never rugged during the winter, only my 2 horses are as they are hunter clipped but even then only have 1 HW on... I believe Ive only ever put on an under rug during severe blizzards! Yesterday and today, even the clipped ones had their rugs off it was SO mild!
