I'm looking to get some new hi Viz and want a heavy coat and also a new waistcoat.
I have 2 x 4yros hacking out now, so I'm thinking of having some with a slogan to help people understand we're not perfectly trained yet!

I see a lot of them have writing on and wondered which is best, in people's experience.
Please pass wide and slow
Caution young horse
Horse in training
Camera recording
Or I could just do what I normally do- stick an L plate on plain hi viz. Everyone understands L plates as they're universal.

I don't want the polite stuff but if anyone has noticed cars particularly slowing down for certain writing, I'd love to hear about it.

I haven't found any slogans that make a difference but my hatcam does and I've had drivers stare at that whilst apologising!

In regards to 'young horse' or 'horse in training' affecting insurance, it's no different that having 'L' or 'P' plates on a car and I do have one that I wear occasionally....usually I just wear runners or workmans hi viz as they're cheaper...and someone said I was admitting liability if there was an accident by saying my horse is young but I just pointed out that my horses are 25 and 17 🤷‍♀️

If you do go for writing then shorter is better as you want something drivers can read/understand at a glance rather than stare at or only be able to read if they're sat on your tail.

As others have said, the only thing I noticed that works is having my hat cam on & a big camera logo on my hi viz, or a big L plate. Easily seen & understood.
All these new ones with war & peace on don't achieve anything as its usually too small & creased to be legible.

Go out looking like a Christmas tree - lights, hi viz, the works. Smile. wave, and say thank you to anyone who slows for you - some people will wind the window down and that is a good opportunity to say thanks, I really appreciate you slowing for us. We found by doing this, we became known around the neighbourhood, and random car occupants would slow and wave to us - even though we had no idea who they were!
On a lighter note, a friend had one of the Please Pass Wide And Slow bibs, and we inked a comma after Pass. She wasn't amused and it took three washes to remove it.

I have an L plate on my hi-viz, doesn't slow everyone down. I get asked who is the learner, me or the horse. Thinking of getting a new one with a camera logo on it, might be more effective at slowing people down. On the other hand, my horse is good with traffic and I quite enjoy reporting the idiots.

The Globe theatre sold sweat shirts with the Macbeth warning "Something Wicked This Way Comes". I drafted it on a custom high viz waistcoat but never ordered. I feared the mare might think it applied to her and take offence.
The highviz I wear was a gift from the RS owner at a yard where I used to hack. It was then the staff uniform.
