Wrong place I know but more peeps here, computer help, urgent please

When I switched on my computer this morning it immediately flashed up a windows page saying I had infections here there and everywhere and I must run this software straight away. When I clicked on it I got a warning that it was from an unverified source. It wouldn't let me close it either.
I ran a complete scan with my own antivirus (AVG) and 2 hours later it detected nothing, no spyware just a few cookies.
Do I need to be worried? Any computer-clever peeps can help me please and thank you?

Were you on the internet at the time?! May have been a pop up or something, especially as it said it was unverified? If you ran your antivirus and it detected nothing then I wouldn't have thought that you would actually have any viruses there, as it scans through everything on your computer!?
I could be wrong, but my bros a computer boff and thats what I've been led to believe?!

avg is very good so if it hasnt come up with anything then you should be ok. it prob just a pop up, so you just need to block them, does anyone else have access to your computer, if so someone may have downloaded something and this has been attached to it which if you do download you may have the chance of a virus but as you have anti virus it as done its job by telling you you have an uninvited source, but for people who dont have anti virus will now have a virus. does that make sense =D

I had literally just turned it on. It is always on the internet with a live box thingy.
I think I have a pop up stopper, it was a whole windows page with pop ups on top if that makes sense?
My daughter sometimes uses this pc but has her own laptop and don't think she did yesterday.
It was very odd and a bit worrying!!

You've got a trojan.

I had something similar once, it pops up all the time inviting you to spend money on software; if you do, it'll disappear for a short time then reappear and ask for more money.

Drastic action is required. Get a proper virus checker next time and a good firewall. Start googling now to find any fixes - but I warn you, that I gave up in the end and re-installed windows to get rid of it. The fixes require updates to the registry among other things and there is still no guarantee it'll go away.

If you're not sure about fixing it yourself then get expert help.

The good news is that some of these trojan types, although annoying, don't always grab your passwords,email and ids or use you as a satellite site for spam email. But it depends which one you've got.

Type any messages that appear into google in full quotes and see what has been written about it - but don't believe everything you read, especially if they ask for money.
