I hacked out in it yesterday and rode in the school this morning..was a bit more spooky but i want him to be able to be ridden in all weathers and listen to me properly
I enjoy riding in weather like this too because its nice and quite with no people about
I cant say as I do not know you or your pony. What I will say is that I hacked out in a howling gale yesterday with a friend on her 5 year old and although it was bracing, both horses behaved impecably and we felt refreshed. We went onto the hills, not as high as usual though.
It all depends how your pony reacts as you said you can handle it so i would go for it and try and miss the rain as that makes it worst as the rain and wind are horrible! x
i hacked 2 this morning both good as gold on is always very good and the other is very spooky especially on his own but for some reason he was a star (might be the fact he had already dumped me in the school so though he had better behave himself!!)
I wouldn't as my pony was hooning round the field this morning and would have been a right pickle to ride, not worth the stress! You know your horse better than us and if you think he would be fine then why not?! If its not enjoyable you will know for next time!
Right now I'd hack out in any weather, not been riding for 3 weeks due to being 24 weeks pregnant and still got another 16 to go! I'm getting a bit desperate now...!
Serioulsy tho if you feel confident to I would go - have hacked out in thunder storms etc in the past - but if you're a bit nervous I'd perhaps leave it for another day.
My spooky one is better in constant wind like this than when it is gusty then quiet - I guess she knows what to expect rather than it 'creeping up' on her, the other is OK in all types of weather, but she's 26 and used to all kinds of weather.
As for the route - in this weather I try to keep to places where I am not relying too much on listening for traffic but where I can see it, and where I can keep them going in a smart trot if needed.
Dont know about hacking out, but couldnt catch either of mine this morning for saddlers visit. Even my old arthritic boy was thundering about kicking his heels up. Every other day this week caught both no probs, typical because I really needed them in !
I went out on Trev the racer this morning & he was fine. It wasn't quite so windy at 8 tho. All mine are v non spooky. I'd have been lucky to have got away with lungeing Catembi in the wind, wouldn't want to school him & wouldn't dream of hacking! It's v nice to have non spookies after Cat.
