WWYD If you couldn't turn out?

If only 3 are rideable you ride them twice for half an hour each leading another each time so the non riddens all get hacked alternate days. The farmer won't be counting for the entire day, so when he's not you stick them out in groups of 3 or 4 for an hour each day. And the 6 not being hacked that day go out for a second hour together. That way they all go out twice a day. If there's a school to use that creates a turnout area. And in the meantime you sort the field asap.

Not saying that I agree with this but years ago I worked on a competition/stud/livery yard where hardly any of the ridden horses were ever turned out, they didn't have a horse walker back then either. Guess the horses were used to it but they were worked for about an hour a day and in their boxes for the rest of the day. Didn't have many with stable vices that didnt arrive with them, they all seemed pretty relaxed and happy, lots going on for them to see and people in and out of their stables during the day. The only horses turned out were the brood mares, youngsters and the comp horses when they had a holiday. Before people start shouting about how unnatural this is etc, it's not how I would chose to keep horses and my own are turned out everyday unless the weather is dangerous. Just saying that there are places that don turn out and once the horses are used to it they don't all turn into crazy lunatics unless your pumpin them full of high cal food and not giving them a good hour + of work.

I'm sure your horses will survive for a few weeks or however long it is without turnout, you are lucky to have a horse walker and also loose schooling and lunging is a good way of allowing them to let off some steam if necessary :)

There are no customers, all private horses! Agh I confuse people I know, no one really manages the land to be fair it's everyone! We have had fencer guy up this morning and he is going to top and fence at the beginning of next week! ( horses can go out but ponies can't until fencing done as they r 15acre fields! I can't tuen out with the sheep as there is too many and just wouldn't work, fingers x'd they will hurry up!
