Please advise !

My usual saddler has given me a saddle to try out before I buy .

The deal was I try it for 1 week , if I'm happy I pay £450 including a full reflock ( a lot of money for the saddle in the first place ) and she would be back out the next week to reflock it . However , after numerous times of asking her to come back out to reflock 3 months have passed !!!! The flocking has gone super hard and is giving my pony tight muscles in his back , I keep contacting her but just the same excuse as always ' I'm waiting for another ladies saddle to arrive before I come down your way again otherwise I will have to charge you the £65 call out fee on top ' she is not keen at all to come out to me - very full of excuses each time and has been very rude down the phone saying she would get back to me but didn't !

However , found out she was down my way today doing someone else's saddle !!

Now I haven't paid for this saddle , where do I stand if I get it reflocked myself by another saddler ?

Any suggestions would be great !

If you haven't paid for it, its technically not yours. And if you have someone else do work to it you may have to purchase it even if you don't like it.

If you don't want it, and think its too expensive anyway, don't buy it.

If you do like it, and can't wait until she is in your area to have it re-flocked, then pay her call out fee. So have you had use of this saddle for free for the 3 months? Seems kinda odd practice from a saddler.

Look at it as a £65 3 month trial fee ;)

I do want the saddle hence why I'm happy to pay a bit extra for it as it's lovely to ride in . I agree . Very odd practice I've never had this trouble before and she promised me a free call out

Any other views ? Have finally got through but she said she won't be coming for 3 weeks and I'm not a priority as it's a second hand saddle that she won't make any money on ! I can't use it on my horse now and she won't accept less if I get it reflocked myself elsewhere . So stressed about this :(

Hmm.......... so you're not using it on your horse as it doesn't fit him anymore; so basically the saddle, even though you liked it when it DID fit, isn't usable at the moment?

And this "saddle fitter" seems TBH to be messing you about. If you're having this much problem with her now at an early stage then I'd be inclined to ditch her TBH and tell her that the saddle is at your address awaiting collection and as you don't want to be responsible for it anymore please would she either arrange collection in person or by a courier.

Yes you've had a "free" trial of the saddle. But you would have much preferred if she'd come back and adjusted it to fit your horse properly at an early stage, yes???

I certainly wouldn't let any other saddler look at it or do work to it as your original saddle fitter would then have every reason to get @ssy and it would complicate the whole situation horribly.

Ring/contact your original "saddle fitter". Tell her that you're disappointed with the service she's given and that because she didn't come back to re-fit the saddle, it no longer fits your horse and hasn't done for some time now - and that you are unable to use it. Tell her that the saddle is at your address and please would she arrange collection, or if convenient, you could drop it back to her (get a signed receipt!). End of story.

Don't break your heart over this saddle because you like it; this saddle fitting woman has messed you around big-time and obviously doesn't value your custom or else she wouldn't be messing you around like this! Plus personally I wouldn't tolerate anyone being so rude to me. There are other saddle fitters out there - and lots of other nice saddles that you'd find comfy too!

If a saddle fitter doesn't come to check the fit of the saddle when they're asked to, and are rude; then you have every reason to ditch them and get someone else! This one is obviously only gonna mess you around and P!ss you off. You haven't paid for the saddle - her problem not yours. Tell her to collect the saddle ASAP and get rid of her. Simples!

Then seek local recommendations for someone else to look at your horse.

This - I would have no confidence in the saddle fitter after this. Just a thought, whose saddle is it anyway. Is your saddle fitter selling it on behalf of someone, or is it hers?

Thank you you've pretty much covered it all for me . Just such a pain as I love the saddle but yes she's been terrible ! My mother is taking it into her hands tomorrow to contact her and tell her she either accepts less so we can get it flocked elsewhere or she can come and collect it .

She's selling it on behalf of someone else . The saddle is worth around £300-350 but I was happy to pay the extra just because it fits my horse so well apart from the flocking issue .

Can you find the same make/model in preloved etc?

I would stop using it, send her a registered letter saying that her saddle is ready for collection, and is now at her own risk eg you are no longer insuring it.

Then source the saddle from somewhere else.

this.
there is an additional problem with this saddle in that it doesn;t actually fit your pony. You need to get another saddler who will fit the saddle to your pony, and then come back a month or 2 later to check it.

I could be wrong on this, but if you write to her asking for her to collect the saddle within XXX days, and she ignores you, write to her again giving her another XXX days or you will charge her storage, then a further XXX days or you will dispose of it, I THINK it'll then become yours to do with as you wish (send the letters special delivery).

Check this out with a solicitor, specially on the timings, but I think if you've done everything you can to get her to retrieve it you should be OK.
