WWYD whilst out hacking?

Unless I knew the farmer was happy for riders to use it, I'd look at it the same way I look at golf courses, sigh and walk by.( Only a gallop across a golf course would be so much more fun.)

i did actually gallop accross a golf course when i was young  :o

(not on the actual bits where the holes are - sorry i know nothing about golf - the really prestine bits)

and jumped the bunkers etc- had about 10mins of glorious fun with a friend on her pony....

needless to say my parents grounded me for a good few weeks and i was made to do all chores for ages when the bill came through for the remedial work :o

LOL Posie_honey. Bet your parents nearly died of embarrassment when they found out.

yes - they were livid - esp as they were/are active members of local comminity - on all local committees etc - then their kid wrecks the local posh hotel golf course in a moment of madness :o

Ditto martlin.
Lol posie honey, we did the same on a football pitch. Made worse by the fact we spent a good while jumping back & forth over the barriers during a football match. Then had an impromptu hunt, with the by now irate footballers as quarry. We were a fair distance from home though, & never got found out.

Wonder how we had got been teleported to a stubble field, as we don't have them in our area.
Don't know whether I should admit to galloping across the school playing fields, in the dim and distant past.

OMG - the green band around a field is most definitely not to be ridden on - and I wouldn't dream of riding on someone's land without asking... this reminds me of a recent thread about a fight with a landowner.. an open gate is NOT a right to trespass, surely ???

sometimes they are. Ours are kept specially for us to potter about on :) But I wouldn't use them without knowing that!

Most deffo have at least a canter in the field ;) Im in Scotland too.

Have to admit to galloping about school playing fields and jumping the end of the chute in local playpark when I was 12 :(

gallop accross the stubble - the grass track may be under a rural stewardship scheme which means it should not be used for recreational use
(i'm in scotland though so have right to roam ;))

Really? Access to land is different in Scotland? What is the law there re open land?
I often ride past fields with no gates and no crops, and think, um should I? When I was a teenager, I would have had no hesitation. But now I am too boringly law-abiding.
