I am planning on leaving my yard anyway, but this has made my decision even easier.

I have really hurt my wrist, I can barely drive and I plan to take the day off work.
As you know, Ned is a field hopper, so when I get to the yard, I just get a full barrow out of whatever field he is in. Today he was in with the ponies, but as I was leaving, he hopped into a different one, which another horse was in too.
I get a text when I get home from YM saying "Ned's field is full of poo. Please get a full wheelbarrow next time"
I reply that my wrist is painful, I'm taking the day off work and I got a barrow full out of the field he was in when I got there. Also that the other horse was in there, so would be his poo too!

I got a text back saying "Ok, when your wrist is better, get a full wheelbarrow a day"

Am I the only one to think this is really rude?
I pay £40 a week for a lame horse to stand in a field. I don't have a stable, I don't have hay, I don't have straw, all of which I was promised my YO (who left, but still owns the yard). I know people who are on full livery for that price. AND I am up there every day and get a full wheelbarrow of poo and often help others with their jobs.

I'm so cross. I can't wait to leave now, if I'm honest.
 
Sorry, but I would make sure ned stayed in his own field, then you are only picking up after him. I would imagine it is a PITA for everyone if he is constantly getting out.
 
I would probably a bit miffed at that text in your position, BUT...
You need to address his field hopping tendencies or you will encounter problems wherever you take him on livery :o
 
I can see both sides to this, i think YO could have worded text slightly better or talk face to face !! you cannot gauge tone etc. over text leaves a lot of room for misinterpretation.

But then as another livery i would be pretty miffed if a horse kept jumping into my field, just purely as it leaves for disputes such as you are experiencing :)

Goodluck with the move ... seems it is needed :)
 
I know I need to address his problems, but really...I don't blame him.
The fencing really isn't up to scratch. I could jump it! It's rarely electrified and in-season mares are put in view, then taken away, then put in view, then taken away...he wasn't this bad when it was just geldings in the field. YO didn't like mares on the yard for this very reason.

Well then facilities are not up to scratch, over priced and doesnt seemed to be managed properly... I would be glad to be gone :o
 
£40 is very steep and I don't mean to be rude, but from previous posts your yard doesn't sound like it has the best of facilities, so not worth this price.

I would move on price alone, let alone the poo picking aggro. I had a problem with mine keep swapping fields, I did a bit of poo picking in their fields too.

I usually do this, but with my wrist, I can't. My usual routine is get a barrow out of 'his' field, then help others with any other field he's been in.

The jumping field and XC (proper solid jumps, not the portable ones) are fab. But it was really just sentimental value that was keeping me there. It's just not that same any more.

Completely lost again - Is Ned in with other horses? Yet you're having to do 'his' field when other horses are messing in it to??? :eek:

They layout is 1 top field split into 3, 4 horses (inc. Ned) are currently meant to be in middle one. Then the bottom field is split into 2, with one pony in the smaller bit and a herd of about 10 mares/geldings in the larger bit. The top and bottom fields a re split by a wire fence.
Ned was in with the mares/geldings so I did that field, but when I left he'd jumped into the right of the 3 top fields. One of the other horses had got into the right field too.

So you're cleaning other horse's poo as well as Ned's? :confused:

Unless OP feeds Ned large amounts of food colouring it would be difficult to tell which were his - or even which field he'd done them in:D SO she just picks a wheelbarrow of assorted poos for whichever field he's in when she gets there.

Sounds like a good idea at least she would know which fields he'd got into and which poos to pick :D

I may do this with my lot too....make it so much easier at worm count time. :p
 
Full livery for £40 a week? Crikey, that's a new one on me!

Regardless of price, YM is rude. I'd probably tell them where to stick their "full wheelbarrow" for that text alone, but in the interests of diplomacy, best stay quiet and just move off asap.
 
Someone on Facebook said £40 a week for full! Lots of people have said £20 for what I have!
Yes, in all honesty I want to leave in a strop, but I still care about the place and would probably be best to leave on good terms
 
I'm glad you're leaving - as they say round here, someone's taking a lend. For £40 a week someone should be picking up Ned's poo for you!

I pay £800 a year for 16 acres and barn right next to my house (shared with sheep but that's a bonus) and don't have to poo pick at all as the farmer manages all the land and fences. So that's less than £40 a MONTH per horse! Ok it's a lucky situation but £40 a week for DIY with - no offence - poor management is a rip off. But then you know that so well done for leaving :-)
 
Even here is Surrey/Hampshire you can get a decent grass livery with stable, school etc for £25 a week, £40 seems like silly money for grass livery with poor fencing. It annoys me when you bust your gut trying to help people out - paying over the odds, probably helping out with other yard stuff on top of what is expected then people have no give or make no exceptions for when your not able to do something temporarily.
