Owner has difficulties looking after his horse at the moment & I have been helping out but I don't trust the horse - (I wouldn't normally but due to circumstances needed to ) he bites rears kicks & generally has no manners he reared with me yesterday & was full of himself again tonight - would you carry on or just say sorry you can't do it the yard we are on doesn't offer any services

I would be inclined to help personally but if the horse is not safe you really cant put yourself at risk. If owner is struggling maybe help them find alternative livery, out to grass may be better suited till circumstances change

If you got injured you would be in the same position-it is different helping someone out with horses you are comfortable with. tell them you are sorry but you feel out of your depth with the horse and they will need to find someone else to do it. they can look for a freelance groom locally

It's difficult as I'm the sort of person that would help.
But as others have said you don't want to get injured.

Maybe turn horse out to grass, the break wouldn't harm it or help find alternative livery, where they are insured!

Definitely wouldn't ride a horse that rears. I know from experience it takes very little for them to overbalance and fall on you. It is a truly awful experience.

Sometimes you have to put your own safety first.

Have a chat with owner - voice your concerns I'm sure they wouldn't want you getting hurt - unless you are a professional it's a hobby to be enjoyed not to be worried about

I wouldn't do it as a favour (ie you are a fellow livery client), not worth risking getting injured just to be nice.

I also wouldn't want to do it if I was the YO, if you want to handle your own dangerous horse then that's up to you, but don't expect other people to do it for you!

I hope you don't end up injured before you are able to back out of this situation :)

Thanks for replies I will try & have a word tomorrow - there was no apparent reason for rear yesterday & with the ground as it is I can also see me going flying - I feel for owner but it's not going to be good if I get injured - wish me luck

Don't put yourself at risk, because that would just mean your horse(s) would need help as well as your friend's horse. You could offer help by mucking out or doing hay/water -or even giving your friend a lift, anything other than doing something that could result in an injury.
You may not have seen Cinnamontoast's graphic picture of her leg injury when bringing in for a friend but it's something to bear in mind. No matter how competent you are, horses are risky critters.
