was browsing the ads this morning where I have come across a horse a friend of mine owned. He is being advertised as no vices and basically as a good all rounder where as when he was with my friend he was very different to this - panic attacks,bolt upright rearing and other issues. She did a lot of work with him - vets,physios,saddlers etc but it was always in there - probably none of my business but he has the potential to hurt someone
 
Horses can be a nightmare for one person, then be sold on to someone else that can manage them/relate to them and completely settle down. Quite often those reactions are due to a not confident rider.. Someone who is confident and quiet may well have had different reactions from the horse and got it going well.. (No knocking your friend, not surprised she would lose her confidence with it) How long ago did your friend have the horse? Perhaps the horse HAS changed in the meantime?
 
Difficult one because as Honey08 has said a lot of a horse's behaviour can be down to the confidence of the rider.

Take my Tb gelding. Before we bought him he was owned by a young lady who was scared to do anything with him, she sent him for sales livery at the place she bought him from (I think) they reschooled him and my daughter bought him. He was perfect and they had a lot of fun, including out hacking, fun rides the lot.

But then, my daughter decided to take a rest from horses and got a part loaner, they had a completely different style of riding and did a lot of fast hacking with him which generally hotted him up anyway. My daughter returned to riding but has been struggling with her health, her job and had a few falls from him and just lost her confidence, he plays up for her now in ways he never would have before. I have no doubt he would be fine in the hands of someone with confidence, so it could be the case with this horse.
 
she had him for approx. 2 years and he has been back with previous owner for approx. a year - horse did it when he was in training - friend tracked down his trainer and said that was the reason he was sold out of racing as he couldn't cope with the pressure hence the behaviour. Its ingrained in him - other people have ridden hima nd got the same reaction
 
All horses have the ability to hurt someone just like humans have the ability to hurt animals sometimes, i like to believe that whilst it didnt work in her/his hands it might work in anothers, as long as that other knows what they are doing and not are not first time owners and are confident.

Horses like these sometimes need those riders that ride like john wayne, sit deep in the saddle, legs forward, sack of potatoes style and are just relaxed, long reins no contact on the mouth, sometimes it works
