x full reins, how long?

I bought some reins for my youngster which were supposed to be extra full, however they only seem about 2 inches longer than the full size reins that came with his bride! do anyone know how many inches xfull are supposed to be?

my horse seems to have a long neck and full size are just too short!
 
Just depends on the brand tbh theres no hard and fast rule. I have this issue & have some harry dabbs reins that are plenty long enough for mine's giraffe neck yet they don't come in sizes so are obviously considered the 'normal' size, however they are longer than other normal/ full reins (prestige, butet, cwd, and other unknown brands). Upon recieving cob reins with a bridle (yes horse needs cob bridle & xfull reins *rolls eyes*) I rang to ask size of full and they were only roughly 5cm longer, I've had to order some xfull reins from another brand (crossing my fingers they're long enough & close enough colour match).

Your lucky day,I just happen to have two sets in front of me AND a tape Measure (Courtesy of Bob the nota cob placing hoof on one set and breaking them).On set is 68 inches long ,Buckle to bit .The new (vastly expensive and more than he deserves)set are 70 inches........Editors note from Bob"Those old reins were getting dangerous Mike , I barely tugged at them and they snapped.You know I am right. Time everyone gave their tack a good check before the new eventing season" Oh and 68 inches is 172 cm .

Stuben do some super duper long reins, they would be long even on a giraffe!

If not, ask your local saddler if they can get some extra length ones commissioned for you.
 
cool thanks guys, im just looking at some 58 inches on ebay so think so I wont order them haha! I think my others are 62 or 64, can't quite remember and didn't have a tape measure earlier haha! so may the search for longer reins continue :)

the reins i make as standard for a heavy horse are 10 feet end to end, 5 foot per side when your in the saddle, As i make everything myself, i can make a set of reins to suit your exact length to suit you. As an example, I find taller people need say 9 foot reins as their arms are longer, but with the 10 foot standard length for heavy horses, no one has said they are too long or too short,
i do make and sell reins seperately, if you need the buckles to match your bridle, send me a close up pic of a buckle on your bridle so i can match them.. Also, the width of the leather is factor, generally, they are either 3/4 inch or 1 inch wide, i'll make what suits your hands, the other options are rubber grip reins or continental grip.
plain leather reins @ 3/4 inch wide are £65, @ 1 inch £70, rubber grip reins are £80 @ 3/4 inch wide.

Thanks guys my horse isn't a giant by any stretch of the imagination, hes only 16'2ish but not 4 until May, so might get a little bigger, though he was only supposed to make 15'2 so hopefully he wont! just the standard length reins only just touch the front of the saddle so there wont be enough slack once im up on him! sure 68-70 will be more than long enough though :)
