XC - Boots - feathers

I have never put boots on Bert for anything including travelling and the odd litlle bit of jumping as he has such a heavy feathering it offers some natural protection. However we are going XC schooling on the 23rd and I am wondering if I should be looking to boot him and if so what boot will fit a giant leg with loads of bone and a shed load of feathers?

Any thoughts?
 
i put boots on my cob, but because his feather are so thick they usually end up either falling off or slipping down. no matter how tight i put them on. they are woof wear boots.
i did have slightly more sucess with bandages, but the back ones usually slip as well.

i probably would just for the sake of it, at least you have tried to protect his legs
 
I always put polo bandages on my cobs legs for xc or high jumping type activities, as boots don't fit him! I like them as they also support the leg though they are easier to put on if you trim the feathers first. Prehaps you could try porta boots (if yu can find any!) theseare quite hard polyfoam pads which you can trim/shape to fit, you put them under bandages to help with shock absorption, but they are quite hard to get hold of.

If you're only doing little jumps and he isn't too clumsy then you'd probably be alright without any.

I am doing 2'6" max as this is my first time ever and I have not done anyting more than that in the school with poly jumps.

Bert has XC'd loads and is very neat and careful with his jumping so I am begining to wonder if we might be best without. He has an awful lot of feather and I cannot see how any boot will stay on

Will go and investingat the woof wear ones and bandages though, although trimming the feather is not an option.
