Hi there. I’ve been out of the sport for a while, but I’ll be back competing this summer, so I now need a set of cross country boots for my horse.
Any recommendations please?
Nothing too pricey.
Premier equine do some reasonable ones as do LeMieux.
What’s everyone using?
Thanks

Hi, I always used to use one with a Ploycarbon shield down the back of the front tendons, until one shattered. I had used NEW, Dalmar and Pro-Lite. It was the Pro Lite ones that shattered, and caused more damage to the tendon as the parts were sharp.

I now use tough plastic that is filled with holes on most of the boot, with tough solid plastic down the back. I bought Tri Zone, but there are now many designs similar.

I believe they have research to show many tendon pulls are because the tendon got too hot, so I think this design is safer that way too.

Definitely echo the caution on overheating. Boot only just before you go, remove and cold hose immediately after! I hare seeing PC Kids in their XC boots for hours. Good boot fit depends on the horse. But for me (and a number of friends) the PE ones swivel around. I have Tri-zone and N.E.W. The trizone hinds can come up a bit long - but we have a 14.2 ISH and a 15.1. Connie They are probably fine if you've something taller.

I've got PE too and we have hit a few fences in our time. I really like them and they stay in place nicely on my TB.

I found the LM ones to be pretty poor quality after lusting after them online for months. The piping around the edges flakes off and they look old/scruffy very quickly.

I've had PE and LM previously and found both pretty decent. PE didn't hold up very well to machine washing, but would probably be fine on a delicate/cool cycle or just hosing off. LM were also good, and did withstand the washing machine better than the PE ones.

Currently have a set of the Woof Wear smart event boots picked up in the sales, and whilst I've not tested them out fully yet since season hasn't started, I'm very pleased with them. I personally much prefer the hard shell design as feel they hold their shape much better, and give a bit more protection. They still seem to keep legs pretty cool, and do have vents in them. They are more expensive, but I think worth it, and I picked mine up for about the same as LM/PE
