Wow, what a difference in horse and rider only 3 weeks after my first and Lotties first ever XC clinic. I attended another clinic with Sam Champeney Warrener, this time at Hale Farm.
Lottie was nice and relaxed to warm up first fence was a small tyre jump, Lottie flew this so I then did the larger tyres and again she flew then on to an upright, she started backing off so I gave her a couple of taps with the whip and then she flew it. Then we jumped quite a big log pile, again Lottie was backing off so the whip came out, 2nd attempt was superb.
Next off to a ditch, again Lottie was not sure but after some gentle coaxing she jumped, then on the next attempt she was much better. Then we jumped a water trough which again she was backing off so backed up with the whip, again 2nd attempt was better.
Then we did several fences in a row - tiger trap, ditch, 3' telegraph pole there was asmallernbsp; alternative but Sam said I expect you to jump the large one), water trough, tiger trap and ppheasantfeeder. She was backing off the tiger trap about 8 strides out so again a determined rider and she jumped over, ditch again backed off so I backed it up with the whip, the water trough she flew, then the tiger trap. At the pheasant feeder she was backing off but no amount of determination was getting her over on the first attempt, on the 22ndattempt she flew.
Then on to a ppalisadeabout 3' - 3'3 that you could gallop at and she flew. Then we had to drop off a bank which she was rreluctantto do but we got her down. By this point Sam said I hope you will be doing BE intro next year. I was like really??
Then we had to jump another 3' palisade, down hill then uphill to a log pile double, on to a triple bar (about 3'3" - 3'6") then on to a trakehner. Sam asked for me to show the others how to ride this section esp the trakehner. I was like thanks Sam no pressure then. We flew the ppalisadelanded short on the first fence to double so had to kick on to get the distance. Then we galloped to the triple bar and she just touched the back rail, so we attempted it again this time she jumped the smaller fence next to it (naughty mum) so on 3rd attempt my god she jumped. Then on to the trakehner at almost a gallop several strides out she was tiring and backing off so the whip came out as mum was not going to be shown up, she kind of scrambled over. so we took her around again and she jumped fine but lost a back leg on landing, however horse and rider stayed up. Bless her she was shattered.
After a deserved rest she then had to jump over a fence in to a field which she stopped at first time and we just didn't have the impulsion then she jumped it.
Last fence was the water. I was meant to trot in jump out 2 stride then jump a log well, she died in the water so we hopped out, then we jumped out and slowly over the log on the 2nd attempt she was better though tired.
So what a difference in horse and rider and no rearing!
