We took the boys out XC training to Aylesford at the weekend and was really fun! Although if i didn't already know it then Fab let me know how much of a big wuss he was!!! He's just lacking confidence though as only his 2nd time ever doing XC fences. Want to get him out and about a lot more before winter so just after suggestions of good venues with smaller jumps, or any local clinics that anyone knows are coming up? We're near Sleaford so anything within an hour and a halfs drive from us.

I know we have locally:

Danethorpe Hill
Newton
Hoods

If anyone could also tell me if them courses are ok for us wanting the smaller stuff?!

Thanks

There is Ketton Park xc course, near Burghley, Stamford, used to have a good range of small jumps. Have not been for a couple of years, but was great for my horses first time xc schooling. Has water, ditch , steps etc. Obviously not sure what it is like now, someone may be able to give you a more up to date view.

Danethorpe and Newton both have a good range. Hoods is supposed to be amazing but I don't know how small it starts I think it's aimed more at the bigger side not been in years though so don't really know. There is a course at Gosberton think it's a UK chasers course? I went and found they have a good selection up to about 75cm then some big stuff. I compete BE90 and didn't really suit me as the small stuff too small and the big stuff too big (BE Novice size).

I have looked for clinics locally but not found a lot (there is a Lucinda Green Clinic at Newton every year but very expensive) I am planning to go to one of the Nick Turner clinics at Carlton. Carlton, MKEC and Keysoe are all approx. a 2 hour drive from Sleaford all are lovely courses and Carlton and MKEC seem to run quite regular clinics. Ely eventing centre is also within 2 hours and runs clinics or Tina will do one on one training.

White House Farm at Eagle

Epworth Equestrian

UK Chasers course at Great Ponton near Grantham

Laughton Manor might have one?

Used to be a course in Laughterton, but not sure if they hire this one out any more.

Canter Hallington

Field Farm near Skeggy

Think Charlotte Castle has one you can hire privately

Hoods is lovely, has a nice array of fences starting with baby fences to Int. They have everything, banks, water, ditches, combinations, steeple chase fences, hedges etc. We always take our babies their to start with.

Eagle moor is also fab for youngsters.

Epworth Equestrian has a fantastic 'galloping course' but I would hesitate to take something there that hasn't got something about it. We've found the Novice RC course to be fairly stiff.

Caistor has a nice course too! Nothing to questioning.
