Afternoon all!

Am booked in to do Advanced Pony Week at the end of august, which is like a mini 3 day event. This means... XC! I am a bit nervous, but I'll be riding Not-So-Evil Bonnie Coblet, and I trust her to keep me alive :)

However... I need some colours now! I've included a few pics of me and her (like you havent already had enough of those...!), what colours do you think would suit us?

Also - long or short sleeves? What kind of pattern?

Bearing in mind that:

I can change her numnah/saddlecloth to a certain degree, but she belongs to my RS, so it all depends on what is in the 'clean' pile in the tack room!

I am planning on getting a Racesafe, but I'll probably have to get one made-to-measure. If I want to be able to return it, if it doesnt fit, its gonna have to be black or navy.

I LOVE pink! And red. And pink... :D

Most of my riding stuff is in shades of blue.

Any ideas you guys have will be greatly appreciated! I've also persuaded Dad to take me to Catlips tomorrow, so will also see if they have anything.

TG xx

If you aren't going to be competing XC very regularly, I'd just get the black or navy BP and wear it with a long sleeved top and hat silk in the colours of your choice. Pattern is upto you, plain would probably look just fine but it's your choice.

I'd go for long sleeves, then get your bp in navy. I love stars on xc colours (if I ever get brave enough to go it's what I'd get!), so maybe pink (fushia?) or red stars on a navy back ground ? Then for your silk you could get one star over the top or a small star in each section like in the pic here http://www.treehouseonline.co.uk/product/86?
How exciting, have a fab time!!!

I really like the idea of navy and red - will see what catlips have as well as some of the XC colours websites!

I love stars on colours too - and even if I rarely do XC I can still wear them in my lessons and around the yard :)

You could get the silk, then if you decide on a blue bp, then like zefragile suggests, you could wear a red rugby shirt under (or something similar), then you all match without having spent a fortune!!

Good idea re the long sleeved top in the colours under a plain body protector and a matching hat silk to the top would be good.....and like you say thelwell girl.....you can wear them around the yard and in your lessons.

Navy and red would be good. Would suit your dark hair and the colourings of bonnie coblet.

Stars are always good so could have a navy hat silk with red stars and a blue top with red stars down the sleeves.

That sounds really nice - could even cut out some fabric stars and stick them onto her saddle pad :D

Nooooo you can't have red

If you go to a fabric shop or craft shop then sometimes you can get fabric shapes in all different shapes and colours......and.....(this is what a friend did)......you can buy a cheap plain hat silk and a cheap plain long sleeved polo/rugby shirt and then you can get that stuff that you iron on so that you cut it to the shape of what you want to stick onto the silk/sweatshirt and iron it on so that it sticks and you can design it however you like.

I think its called bondaweb or something like that that you iron on. But it works really well.

this is just a quick search and they are not ideal as they are sequinned....but something like this........

*disclaimer*

Skychick is not responsable for any ruined hat silks, ironing boards, stars stuck where they shouldnt, bonny coblet having permanant red stars that she didnt have before or the ironing forever having red marks left on it due to a ruined iron :-D

Have to admit, my friend made some really nice tops and hat silks. Just check on the hat silks that you can iron them....some you can....some you cant, so have a quick look on the lable first!

But any craft/fabric shop should have the iron on gluey stuff you put between what you want to stick on and what you want to stick it too.
Im not sure if bondaweb is just for hemming trousers. But google will help you!

If you do do your own gear.....we need pics!!!

Since its not ur horse id get colours you like and she looks very dark so will match most - stick with pink and black? get a black protector?

Then go for whatever pattern you see and then like! maybe just get a long sleeve top from a sports shop as less bulk than a rugby top which can get in the way of getting a correctly fitted BP as modern designs are close fitting. I would get ur top first then protector but go into the store to be fitted for a BP but a good saddler who lets you try it on while sitting on a saddle - you need to make sure its not too long in back, which will hit the saddle or too short which wont protect your back fully.

Then ur sure to find a black saddlecloth at the yard to wear on the day too.

Thinking not-too-pricey + simple - black & pink.

Get yourself a black & pink hat silk, you can use a long sleeved pink top under a black body protector (yes, long sleeves), a black numnah and if Bonnie will be booted up, you could use pink electric tape on her boots :D

The above would be my plan xP

Pale yellow or orange would look really striking with a dark coloured horse like Bonnie - and you could wear with a black BP and saddle cloth.

But don't listen to me, I usually like to go for something totally different to most people (always wear brown boots, favour swallow tail saddle pads and polo blankets, braid my own bridles etc)

if you looking at the custom made option like you posted I would use Jellybeanz - I have used them for years and they are mucher cheaper than the treehouse option and they will custom make any design you like and the lyrca covers fit a treat and last, I now have two sets from there! 15 pounds for a custom made cover with pom pom too!

I love swallowtail saddle pads! :D How do you braid your own bridle?
