Looking for some help from lovely people in the North Yorkshire area.

I have just moved up here and have no idea where the good XC schooling courses are (ideally with decent ground that might be OK-ish in all this wetness).

Would also like to find a hunter trial or two to enter between now and mid April.

Any suggestions / recommendations would be much appreciated. Also anywhere I should avoid (PM me if you prefer).

Where do things tend to be advertised?

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Whereabouts are you? 'tis quite a big area

There is a small Xc course at the GG centre, near Easingwold (York) and they also have an indoor & 6 outdoor arenas.

There is Thornton Lodge - also Easingwold http://www.thorntonlodgefarm.co.uk/

There is one at Escrick Park, near Selby (google escrick park rideways)

There is also one over near Gilberdyke, called Manor Farm, which is very good indeed.

There is Epworth in Doncaster which is quite good, its not in north Yorkshire, but easy to get to I think. Their course is very well draining, and I think there is an RC event there in April, plus there own ones.

Manor Farm is supposed to be very good too, but haven't been there (yet!) The GG centre do have an xc course, but I think it is all portables, and I don't think they put them out at this time of year (although things coudl have changed since I last went) but the schools at the GG centre are great, and they have a gallops to go on too.

Or there is Camp Hill which is near to Northallerton, she has lots of small combinations that are good for practising lines etc and I think she was putting a water fence in too. Very nice ground there, have events and didn't cancel a single one last year as their ground was great through all the rain apparently.

They also have an aerial extreme course in the trees if you get bored of riding

Another thumbs up for Manor Farm and Escrick Park.

Local events are usually listed in the Yorkshire Post. Website is yorkshirepost.co.uk, go to country view page and look under equestrian diary.

You could try Helen Bell at Northallerton, just a quick ride up the A19. I didn't think she was open yet but apparently she had a clinic there this weekend so she'll be worth a bell (no pun intended
