What a day!

It has been raining all day which took some of the heat away so I think the horses were coping much better than was expected. The course walked very technical with some serious angles (not done justice by tv!) but it wasnt big at all- most jumps would have looked quite at home in a 2* It was fairly wide in places but I think in the end it caused fewer problems than were first anticipated.

British teamwise, Sharon should have gone long 2nd to last, even if she'd have pulled out of 2nd element last minute the fence judges were being pretty lenient and he jumped in too poorly to make it. Otherwise they did a fab job- bar William's very hairy moment at the last!

Spoke to Mark Phillips at the end and he was very disappointed but they have had a lot of bad luck on the run up I suppose.

Cinda and Clayton were delighted, Cinda said Brit found it too small and not galloping enough. They had thought twisty turny would suit her but she needed a good blow to get the fizz out and just couldnt. She finished fittest of all and her heartrate was very low- Brit said it was all too easy!
Clayton said Ben was fabulous xc and he really enjoyed it.

Obviously Team China are bitterly disappointed as Chico was jumping beautifully but it was slight rider greeness and perhaps a small eroor of judgement by the horse- just one of those things. Everyone was smiling soon after and enjoying the atmosphere in the VIP area. There's always London for him

Anyway, have some fab photos which I will share when we get home in a few days time.

Sounds awesome! I really wish I could have managed to stay up and watch it - highlights for me later instead. I am going to move hell and high water to get to watch at London - I think Alex will be up there with the best of them once he's got 4 more years at the top under his belt.

Yawn!!
Morning, well what a brilliant xc. Full of excitment and drama.

Boss it sounds super there, I cried when Mary came over the line.

Fingers x they all pass the trot up tomorrow.

Great report, thanks Boss !

Agree about the rain, the horses probably suffered much less than if it had been sunny and muggy...
Looking forward to seeing your pics.
Enjoy the rest of your stay in fabulous HK !

Ooooo it's so exciting that you were actually there!!

Some fantastic xc last night.....sooooooo sleepy this morning. Just bought a giant coffee on way into work!!

Now when is the SJ?? How tight is the top 10?! It's going to be so exciting!!

Watched the quick highlights at 6.30 am, BB's I think Mary was crying when she finished too.

I still think it was wrong to have the time set so tight it was unachievable. Yes it should be tight so it forces errors but surely with the best horses and riders in the world there at least some should have made the time.

The organisers have a choice. They have to make it fair XC because of the number of nations competing without the experience of GB/Germany/USA et al. If they make the course easy, there are too many clears, again, not fair on the lower ranked countries. So, they make the time tight, not to force errors on the course, but to actually give differences between everyones marks.

Im not sure my nerves will stand the showjumping!!! I cried as Mary came through the finish....but I was tired and Im sticking to that excuse!

Very well done to Alex, I know its a disappointment but he is going to be a force to be reckoned with by 2012.

Continue to have a fab time Boss and keep us all updated, theres only so much tv you can watch before you begin to lose track of which time zone you are living in!!

Such a shame about Alex

Has anyone out there said anything about Amy Tryon coming off?

I've been amazed by how supportive all of the teams are of each other and no, havent heard a single bad word said about anybody- it may go on behind closed doors though!!

Alex is such a fighter- he was annoyed but he got over it and blames only himself. I'm tipping him for Badminton next year

has no-one said anything about Megan Jones then? she gave that lovely generous honest horse two whacks after the last fence, disgraceful imho (and isn't that against the rules too?)
absolutely NOT the image we want the world to see of our sport.

glad to hear the atmosphere's so good though, will rely on you to give us whispers of who is/isn't totally sound though... !
have a fab time out there.

Wow, sounds absolutely awesome!! So thrilled for the Fredders, but was really sorry that the course was not right for Brit as she sooo deserves an individual gold medal.

Was also so gutted for Alex as well,...both him and the horse just looked marvellous up until that fence.

You're not allowed to use your whip after the fence are you?
