It has given me a real scare tbh, had a lesson on J this afternoon and felt physically sick, and now I have a splitting headache

TB x Connie

No way!!!

God that suprises me, I was thinking it'd either be a warmblood or a tb. No excuse then, do you think something may have distracted him at the last second?

I really dont know tbh, he is very bright and careful normally, perfectly schooled and balanced so no excuse at all. Think it was just one of those things, something must have caught his eye, or maybe I unknowingly did something that upset him at the last minute, it all happened to quickly to tell

I had a similar fall with Boss one year in the intermediate at Tweseldown. It was a horrid trappy narrow fence but he approached it very well, seemed to be locked on, felt absolutely fine on take off but for some reason he just didnt pick up in front and somersaulted over it and flopped sideways. I nosedived and landed clear but my face was a bit of a mess and he was extremely sore because he basically did a head-stand so put a huge amount of strain on is neck.

It still haunts me now becuase there was no logical reason for the fall and nothing I could have done to prevent it- I dont mind falling when it's your fault but an unexplained freak thing like that is really bad for the confidence. I wont jump anything similar and ultimately it ruined my faith in Boss- it was after that that I started to really ride him with the handbrake on.

You so right, I can cope when you can come up with a reason why, as then you can alter something and hopefuly prevent it happening again. This was completly impossible to prevent. We came round again on the exact same stride and jumped it fine, so not like I can change anything. The fence was a simple table type, decent size, but not technically difficult

I didnt really think about it like that till my trainer said the exact same thing, then it kind of hit home how dangerous it was

cripes, glad to hear you're okay. i'm sure he'll have learnt from it, as it was his error not yours... hopefully he'll never do it again.
