Just a quick (self indulgent) post to say that OH and I had a brill day XC schooling with the two mares. It is the course that Flora hopefully will be doing her first aff event at in a month's time, and she felt really confident and grown up. There were lots of bank and ski jump type complexes, the water was v spooky as it was a running river under some trees but she paddled through on her own no problem. She was really taking me into everything, and didn't feel green or wobbly at all. She has definitely grown up this year. We didn't have the wet weather that you poor souls in England had today (just the one v heavy shower when we were on our way home in the lorry), and the ground was perfect didn't even have to use studs.
OH had a really good school round as well, Sophie hasn't jumped a pole since her last event over a month ago, so she was really up for it and keen. We are trying to keep the weight off her as she gets so lethargic and fed up if she gets heavy, which is made worse if the ground is hard.
My fingers are well and truely crossed that it keeps raining (enough to keep the ground in good condition) and OH and I can have a good summer's eventing with the two girls.
By this time last year Flora was lame with a bruised sole which didn't improve until Seotember, and Sophie was only to do one more event as the ground was so hard we felt there was no point continuing. Hope we are due better luck this time!!
