i have a ode coming up at the end of the month
and need a xc shirt
and a new non fixed peak hat (i have a sjer stylee one :L)

any suggestions as i dont want to spend too much

x

Crash hat - whichever design fits your head best
XC top - if you dont want to spend money then just any top you have at home, some PC has to be dark top, and usually long sleeved.
I just wear my shirt from shirt and tie or a white long sleeved T shirt!!

ebay
lots of new /used x shirts or just a noraml long sleeve tshirt
also lots of new hats on ebay at cheap prices, I would avoid used ones as you don't know what has happened to them in the past ie if they have been dropped. Make sure the hat you buy is of a make you have used before to make sure its fits your head as different makes are different shapes
You can also get v.cheap hat silks on there too

oh actually i have a toggi top i could wear

i may get away with wearing my sisters hat
if not im going to have to buy a new one

I just wear my stock shirt under my BP for xc - I'm usually boiling anyway so don't want anything thicker, and my BP is made to my xc colours.

If I need to have long sleeves I usually just put a black long sleeve t shirt on under BP. Can't justify spending lots on a posh xc top at the moment, and this works just fine.

For a hat, try to get a kids version as they are so much cheaper than adult hats and come in all of the sizes

.

quick question - why do some PC's say you have to have a dark top ?

i wear a bright blue rugby under-armour top under my navy BP- its tight fitting lycra and really comfy, thinks its in my siggy...

Its along the same lines as having to wear cream , black or navy jods at camp and using only brown, black or navy saddle cloths. Its to try to stop fashion or bling getting in the way of the real business.

ah well, glad im waay to old for pc anymore..

Re the hats, don't buy a kids one unless it fits properly, and get it fitted at a tack shop that has someone trained to fit hats. Many kids ones are not as deep as adult and thus don't protect the back of your head as well.
I only know this from having a hat fitter fit my daughters hat - she has an unusal shaped large head, and needed an adult one before she was 8, and she explained why she was trying each hat and what the difference in brands and sizing and fit was and why she thought the hat we got was the right one.

I have a charles owen jockey skull I use for xc - had a it a good long while and it fits very well and was not expensive.

As a xc top I just have a thin thermal type top - can't think what make it is - basically just from a hiking/sports type shop, keeps you cool when hot and warm when it's cold. I find it v comfy for xc as nice and thin.
