I am thinking of putting up a XC course in the woods we own, thinking of making a circuit type track around 1.5/2 miles with homemade xc jumps ranging up to about 4ft in height, all the jumps will not be solid so horses can knock them down (i know solid puts alot of people off) Its in a lovely quiet woodland location and all the jumps would be across the tracks with a way round them for those who didnt want to jump that particular jump.
So, how much do you think people would be willing to pay to hire the course out per hour etc?
I currently have a small track set up with 5 jumps and everyone has commented on how good they are, so i know there is interest!
Thanks

I pay £15 to go around our local xc course, I am usually there for approx 1 or 2 hours.

I think you will need insurance though, we also have to sign a disclaimer and have our medical records, next of kin etc. logged there.

if you say they will be knock down fences do you mean like a jump - cross course rather than a traditional style cross country course?

Yep this is what i mean - eg - the jumps would be made from logs (solid ones) but with a lighter log over the top resting on stumps so the top one could be knocked for example.
There would also be a bank, and a water jump but mainly twigs, tyres, logs, brushes etc that type of thing, natural jumps.
Where in Shropshire.

who puts the log back up afterwards?

genuine query as we tend to go all on horseback and rarely have anyone on the ground.

We have a xc course but have given up hiring it out as the insurance conditions and cost were ridiculous. Remeber to find out how much it will set you back!
Only ther Pony Club use it now as they have their own insurance. (And me, too!)

we have a place nearby that you just put £5 in a honestly box (or thats what you used to do, not been for ages)
there was another but they closed down due to the insurance cost and i think i gentleman actually died there just before it closed, i was in the USA when it happened so not totally sure, i 'think' he had a heart attack whilst going around?

jump cross is something i really want to do

I'll come!! Err well for xc schooling id say the average is £15 per horse and you get as long as you want. That does tend to be for a BE course or equivalent though, so maybe £10, maybe £15 depending on the length of course, number of fences etc?

The one in lancs with honesty box - st michaels is still running. Stil a fiver but no jumps really ...

Have a look at the UK chaser website.. there are lots of courses and prices on there...

Think knock down fences is a bit of a waste as I suspect they will always be knocked down - I never have anyone with me on ground to pick them up

You have got to be very careful with haveing knock downable logs! a show jumping pole is light weight and flimsy for a reason and why do you think xc courses secure there logs or have them on frangible pins? a stray, heavy log could crush a fallen rider or trip up the horse and make the situation alot worse. would think you'd struggle to get it insured unless its upto a certain standard aswell.
