Went to PC today and had a fab time :D. Its the first time the boy has been out for a bit as he pulled a muscle a few weeks ago so has had some time off but has been back in work for a little while now and the break seems to have done him good. Its also the first time he has jumped since camp due to his pulled muscle and me bringing him back in to work a little slower than the vet said I could.

Any way started off with flat work and he was such hard work :(. Just sat on my leg the whole time and would not move forward, humph. So we did a little lateral work to try get him moving a bit more (having a break from schooling for to long makes him become lazy and complacent), did some leg yeild that he did nicely then some shoulder in. He only learnt shoulder in a little while ago so its all a bit new to him but we now need to get some more angle to it. Instructor gave his bum a prod as we were doing it in walk which helped so any thing I can do at home to replicate this without the person to prod him as I dont think mum would do it and I generally school alone? Also did some no stirrup work although I kept mine down as last time I tried at home he scared him self so being in the middle of a field I thought it was best to have them there just incase. By the way it was nice and sunny at this point .

Then went to do some poles and basic grids, he liked this as the aim was to shorten the canter and make it bouncier and as he was the smallest in the group they were unintentionally set up to a comfortable stride for him :D . So started off with raised trotting poles then canter poles then built it up to a grid. Kept him in his flat work bit which seemed to work well so hoping we can progress to using it all the time soon. He found this all a little exciting and tried to put his head between his knees a few times and decided that the last one needed jumping  but as long as he is just enjoying him self and not trying to have me off I'm ok with it as its nice to see him enjoying him self rather than being scared as he was before. Also did his first corners and then did two on a related distance. It was chucking it down by this point .

Then had lunch and the skies truly opened :( but he was very grown up and stood IN the trailer munching some hay, its a first for him, nothing to others but after the issues we have had in the past its a big step.

Thankfully it dried up over lunch and by the end was rather warm . So we headed out to the XC :D. Started off going through the water wasnt sure of his reaction as we had some issues there at camp , but he did me proud, backed off a little but went, then trotted through :D lots of pony pats. Then did his first step, he was a little hesitant but popped off nicely when he had had a little thought about it. Then went and strung some fences together as you can see in the video theres also a little skinny but you cant see that one so was rather proud. Managed to start riding him in more of a xc style as he wasnt wobbling round under me so thats also progress. Headed off to the ditch after I was expecting large tantrums like we had had at the water the first time but with a bit of persuasion he went. Then went and did a hanging rolltop to a skinny chair, then a log on a hill with a drop on landing. Then did another skinny that I hate and rode like an idiot to so a friend popped it on him :o. Then another double with a skiny as the second part, then a combination and a hanging log to finish.

What a stunner! A few more attempts to get confidence up and you'll be flying along! Bless him for jumping it all, he didn't look too convinced at a few lol (I would prob have fallen off...) :)

You've done a bloody good job with that pony, he looks smashing. :)

I love the picture through the water as well.

Thanks :)

what a handsome little horse. He looks so honest doing all of that stuff, bless him.

Yeah he's honest to a point, I still need to work on trusting him to jump as I still ride like he is going to stop as that was his favourite response.

Thanks, his confidence is the only thing holding us back now. He jumped round most of the pc intermediate course today he just needs more expiereance. He is actually suprisingly easy to sit to if you dont assume he is going to go :o.

You both look great and he's brave for jumping them when he is a bit unsure. The grid work looked fun.

Thanks he is getting braver every time :)
