i was planning on doing some xc training at some xc courses in east midlands, preferably in nottinghamshire...does any1 know about Trowell XC Course and whether its good...iv been on the website, but just wondering about your opinions...does it have a good range of jumps...water/logs/ditches/hedges etc?? or is there a better one around??

I like trowell, quite a few choices, nice water, but i thought the ground can be quite boggy in places.
As you go to vale view (pics in your sig!) there is a nice course a bit further on at aylesford. Its a uk chasers course so if you go on the site youll find the contact details there. Its got ALOT of options, brill water.
Theres also newton xc, thats nice, they have a website, not sure what it is though!
Not sure what will be open at the mo after all the rain though!

thanks!! i'll try trowell then this summer...and newton...il have a look at the aylesford 1, although mte be a bit of a trek, alredy takes 1 hr to get to vale view =P and yea, u recognised the pics on my sig LOL =D mandy xx ly xx

Its not much further up from vale view, im not sure which direction you come from, but when im at home my horse is kept near junc 24 on the m1 and it takes another 10 mins probably to get from where you turn off the A6006 (i think thats the main road!) for vale view to get to the chasers course, if that!

Another vote for Aylesford from me. Lovely course - well built with lots of options and KatB tells me that they have added a lovely arena with a full set of showjumps. Well worth the trip.

I haven't either but would like to! Let me know when you are coming up - may try and come over too

I had heard the Trowell is being sold so not sure whether it will be available for schooling or not

Will be a shame if it isn't cos it is a nice course they used to have a website www.trowellxcc.co.uk or something like that I think

Aylesford is fantastic, went there last week and theyhave been working hard on it over the winter, there is alot to play with

Great ponton chasers course in Grantham is also nice from what have seen (

) and have had many recommendations re. it. Newton house XC is a nice schooling course in the fact everything is very compact, they have worked hard over the winter to improve it, and has a good variety. It is near Bingham if that makes it easier to locate! May not be great for baby horses as some of the smaller ditches etc are a bit spooky.

Trowell is not available any more, it has been sold. The others that are mentioned are great (have done them all), there's also Field Farm (between Wymeswold and Willoughby), and Catton Park, down the A38 near Burton.

Field Farm is great! I couldnt remember what it was called though! Has show jumps too, with lots of scary fillers! Has a nice set of skinnies on a dog leg and a track through the woods. Think they were going to expand it the last time i was there so it may have changed!
Its closer than Vale View too!!

wow...lots to choose from, newton, aylesford, field farm, great ponton and catton park!! will try 2 visit them all! thanks evry1! if any1 has ne more feel free 2 post, i have a long summer after my gcse's to do all this so =D
