So my gelding came in with suspected absess on Tuesday, the farrier was there and had a dig, thought he got to it, it's had a hot poultice since, bit of guck came out but not a lot and this morning his heel is looking inflamed and bit of puss, either it's just where the boot has rubbed or it's the absess about to burst, should I call the vet as it's in the heel and should I move the police there?!
Also heel area swollen and got this morn :(
Help!

I would hot tub then put on a fresh hot poltice over the area you suspect then use a nappy (or similar!) And duct tape over that rather than a poltice boot so no rubbing.

How lame is the horse?

I would only call the vet on Xmas day if the horse had something life threatening or was in obvious great pain with colic or something. I would do as Kelpie suggested, hot tub and put another poultice on. After a day of hot polutice I would use a 'dry' poultice made up of sugar and iodine for three or four days. The iodine will draw out the stuff and the sugar helps to dry up the foot. Its really effective. If you feel the horse is in pain give it one or two bute/danillon in its feed.
