Does anyone know off hand how much an xray is? I was thinking £50-70 and how many they normally take (it will be of knee) also what is the difference between digital xrays and 'normal' xrays?

For a foot its about £50 but by the time you get the call-out fee and sedation can be around £150+
Better than a bone scan - had one of those on a cannon bone and was £500!

hopefully she wont need sedation, shes pretty aminable!!
Vets do 'rounds' on certain days so theres no call out
will budget couple of hundred for it then!!

Not many vets will do it without sedation due to the delicacy and high value of the equipment

My horse recently had a set of 4 x-rays on his feet (no sedation required). The total cost, which included the lameness work up, was around £400.

ill check with them when I phone them if she needs to be sedated then she can be, they can do her teeth at the same time then!

Well digital x-rays mean that you can see the results there and then on the yard - and they can be emailed to you for your records.
Normal x-rays (I don't know many practices that use these now) have to be developed - so the results take a few days to be reviewed.

I took mine to the vets to have his foot xrayed and it cost £120, that was for 4 xrays and the sedation.

Yes, my costs did include the work up - so perhaps more than you can expect to pay.
And if your horse is quiet - don't let them sedate just for the sake of it. Most horses are as good as gold.

I paid £15 per x-ray plate 3 years ago - I took him to the surgery so didn't have call out - he was sedated though. TBH I found the x-rays were one of the cheapest procedures he had! I was shocked at how cheap they were!

I'm in the same part of the world as Amy May and had a full work up, nerve blocks and 4 xrays of the foot for £371 - my horse lives at the farm next door to the vet though so there's no call out with that as we only have to go down our drive and up theirs to the little consulting room the vet has at home. He wasn't sedated, he's the only horse I know that the vet seems to have a very calming effect on!
