ok, so i have had horses at the yard i am currently on (yard 1) my friend is now getting a horse and plans to keep it on same yard so can ride together and i can help with her new horse as it is her first...HOWEVER

we went round looking at other yards yesterday incase any had spaces as tbh yard 1 isnt brilliant and would love an arena as i have a youngster so...

yard 1- VERY basic DIY, stables are not brilliant, big enough but some leak etc, the fields are huge 24/7 all year turnout, fencing not great, i only get on with a few people and before my friend i had no1 to ride with, no arena but great off road hacking, 10mins car drive away (helpful if i could drive..currently rely on parents)

yard 2 - nice big dry stables, cupboard in back to keep things, only have a few horses in each field which are smaller but better fencing and also 24/7 turnout all year (unless fields cant cope) but only a 5/10minute walk away and direct access to miles off road hacking plus a woodchip arena

yard 1 is 15 a week and yard 2 is 26 a month, both have to buy in own hay/straw but i dont use much anyway as mine is out 24/7.....so which would you pick? the yard better and nearer for you or the yard so you have company to ride with which i have been missing since my other friend moved off the yard? they are within a 20minute hack to eachother so could still meet up but its not the same as being on same yard together

I can't see any advantage to yard 1? If I've read this right it's further away (you can walk to yard 2), more expensive, worse fencing, you don't get on with the other people and there's no arena.

Def yard 2!

your right the only advantage to it was that it was cheap and i had a happy hacker then and didnt do any arena work but i miss it now i have a horse that loves jumping and could do local comps!

but my friend can't afford yard 2 atm so i would be on my own again! which ive hated!

Yard 2 for sure. You'll make friends with other liveries there and be able to hack out with them. I moved to a new yard where I knew nobody in Jan and it didnt take me long to find hacking buddies :)

Yard 2 , all the way , having an arena to work in with youngsters is worth it's weight , and no doubt you'll make some friends on the new yard.

yeah my heart was set on yard 2 when i heard they had spaces (a rare thing as so local for everyone) i just feel bad for my friend being on her own when i said i would help her and we always planned being on same yard once she got a horse!

Do you really need to ask?

what about if your friend does a bit of mucking out for you in return for you paying perhaps an extra fiver towards hers, that you will be saving parents in fuel?

thats an idea! didnt even think about that... she is looking for a job atm so could take over extra payments once she got one...
