I need a new pair of boots for mucking out and using round the yard. They are not for riding as I have a set of Ariat boots and chaps which I keep just for riding. Ideally, I would like them to be smart enough to wear to go to Tesco's in the winter, but I don't want to spend over £50 (if possible). I need them to be long (ie just below the knee) rather than ankle boots.

Does anyone have any recommendations which fit the bill?

get yourself a pair of hunter wellies-ive had mine 4 years ans still look like new. you can get fleecy winter warmers that fit inside and fold over the top of the wellies. soooo warm and yet looks the part too!

Yeah hunters come in a load of great colours and last for years

I'd have to agree with hunters although, when it's really cold, muck boots are great...if they turn their nose up at you in tesco, very much their problem...Hunters are quality boots...I adore my pairs (got married two years ago and as venue was a bit damp, I bought a pair of aubergine ones for the occasion!)

my hunter boots never lasted very long either, had lots of pairs but always split! used to wear them A LOT though (all day really as was a groom plus own horses)

the long ones that come up just below the knee. You can also get slightly longer ones that you can ride in. I just find mine so comfy - I got them for Christmas and spent the morning wearing them like slippers with my PJs!

Muck Boots in the Tyne model (much warmer for hacking out when it's freezing and I don't feel the cold) I've had mine 4 years this winter and they're barely worn

I've been looking at these Muck Boots too - I think I might give them a try after these recommendations. Can anyone explain the difference between the different types

My Le Chameau have nearly given up the ghost after years of good service but can't really justify £100+....

I have been looking at the Le Chameau All Track Ladies ones - they are about £40-50 pound for a pair so about the same as Hunters. I've had them before and they last really well - usually about 18 months with four hours per day wear every day.

I had some neoprene lined Le Chameau ones - not sure of the style - but they have lasted me at least four years, worn everyday and have only worn out because I didn't take them off with a proper boot jack and I've broken the back down

Highly recommended.
