Just wondered if anyone knows of any dogs looking for a home in the Derbyshire area? We are looking for something to keep me company and feel a little bit more confident of an evening when the OH is away. We are in the middle of nowhere and have had some bits stolen from the yard. Currently have a JR but lost our Lab last year and i'm missing the company of a bigger dog. Have tried the usual rescue suspects but they don't like dogs being outside (we are currently in a static caravan having renovation's done)- maybe I was too honest but there will be a lovely kennel and we are home all day etc.. Any idea's would be welcome. Thanks in advance...

What is wrong with these rescue places?! don't they have any common sense? surely they can see that it is only temporary accommodation and that it is better to rehome to a good home that has had dogs before and will look after them and will take on one of their rescues and give them room for another deserving case?!

They make me so cross as they are all saying they have more dogs than ever and yet make it so difficult for good homes to help. Grrr - no wonder they still have so many.... Sorry rant over!! Have you contacted your local Labrador rescue? they are always looking for good homes.

Thanks for that ive not tried them yet, thats a good idea.

Too right! I felt like a leper after calling a few rescues! Even if it was outside (does have heating etc..) surely it would be better than being locked up all day at RSPCA you would think...? Obviously not.

Like its been said many times before don't really see what they are looking for! The mention of the word horse caused problems too apparently there can be accidents..!!

Oh! can't you come down to Suffolk??? I work for a Vet & we have recently fixed a broken "terrier" which was hit by a car on the A14, No-one has come forward and we suspect he's come from the local gypsy site. He's been with us 6 weeks & now needs to find a home. He'll never be 100% sound, but he's getting about fine. Yours sounds like the perfect home, good luck finding a pups to share it with. D x

It is a shame, they have over looked you, at the end of the day, dogs are fine kept out doors, as long as you have shelter, and the dogs are secured until they are used to their environment, I cannot see a problem, if you where closer I would have no problems home checking you for a dog, we have a few larger breeds in, inc a rotti and 2 shepherds that came together from an outside environment, they where handed in when the security firm which they guarded went bust, there will be suitable dogs out there.

Ps, if you want something to stick around, and not naff off, go for a breed with some brains as well as braun

I will have a quick scan on the rescue site I go on, see if there is any bigger breed rescues on there in your area....a lovely shepherd or the likes of

I don't blame you for wanting a dog around, even for security, and IMO, would be lovely for any bigger dog to have free rein

Are u looking for any breed in particular?

I would go for a shepherd or a shepherd

or a rotti, but mind u, if you went for a rotti, people would have to give u warning of there entering the property or even the field for that matter

Friend of mine wants to rehome an 8 month(ish) old yellow(dark, foxyish) lab. They have suddenly decided to emigrate to Aus! He's lame at the mo,damaged a ligament near his elbow, so is free to a good home. PM me if you're interested,we're not too far from you, south of Doncaster.

I think Sheppard or Rotti would be great! Idea is that there won't be anymore people climbing the gate. More worryingly someone was caught taking photo's of my Shetland and ISH yesterday! Could be innocent but with all I have read on here its a real worry...

Update...

Spoken with Half Way House Dog Rescue at Newark thanks to a PM suggestion, very nice lady and fingers crossed we will be going to see some possibilities soon.

Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions!
