Hi there,

I'm organising a fun day at the yard, thought it would be a good idea because we have recently doubled in size and thought it would be a great way for everyone to get to know each other before the summer holidays are over and before winter sets in!

So here's the plan for the day:

Morning 10-12

Dressage in the school

Clear round jumping in the jump field

Afternoon 13:00-15:00

Fun showing classes:-

prettiest mare
most handsome gelding
veteran
lead rein
Fancy dress

16:00- BBQ and prize giving

best turned out horse/Rider
dressage result
best clear round

I thought we could charge £1 for each entry and then split the money between two charities WHO and greatwood ex racehorse charity!

what do you think any ideas???

When i was a young girl we used to have a human gymkana.
Pole bending,
potato race,
musical sacks,
apple bobbing
and clear round jumping..

great fun!! they could be ideas for the adults whilst the bbq is on after a drink or two (of course all horses will be safely tucked away in there fields at this point!)

Sounds like fun! I'm sure you could charge more per class, especially as the money is going towards charity!

I was thinking £2 but decided i wanted people to enter as many classes as possible! maybe £1.50 would be good?

Next problem is finding judges!

Hey wouldn't it be cool if some others on here did the same on their yards on the same day then we could swap notes he he

A yard near me does one over two days! They have showing and jumping on the Saturday, and dressage and a BBQ on the Sunday... They also do Dressage Without A Headcollar, where your horse is lose! Quite amusing and worth watching! They also do a Le Trec style thing.

We've always joked about racing with wheelbarrows stacked up with dirty straw without dropping any on the yard. An alternate egg and spoon race!

QR - haven't read other replies. What about dressage to music? That sounds like great fun, or a mirror image jumping course with two identical courses set up on each side of the school and two horses go in at a time and race round? Or pairs jumping? Bareback jumping?
