Today we had to turn down an otherwise perfect yard, because ALL the fencing was barbed wire and sheep netting. We have been yard hunting for months, and just can't seem to find anything.

We just want a local yard, nothing fancy, with a stable, leccy and water.

It's becoming quite disheartening :(

That's a shame. Would they not let you run electric fencing round to keep the horses off of it? That's what we do.

Unfortunately no. We suggested this, but YO doesn't believe electric fencing works when they have rugs on, no matter how strong. We even offered to replace the barbed wire with plain top wire at our own cost and they weren't interested... and of course the sheep netting would still be there :(

Did you explain about putting some fencing in the rug, or maybe just putasocinit, move to the yard, smile and be sweet then suggest lekkie fencing, much easier to make your requests heard when you are there, good luck.

I have sheep fencing where i am with barbed wire and electric wire and never had a problem.

Lol! Thanks putasocinit, we may have done, but the final decision was with Boyo's owner, and she was understandably like NO WAY is my boy going anywhere near barbed wire. YO was equally adamant that the fencing wasn't changing, and leccy fencing is useless arghhh!

What do you mean about putting fencing in the rug? Not heard of that before?

You put a piece of fencing in the piping of the rug so when horse leans on fence with rug on it still gets a volt. Others will explain better

I've seen horrible injuries caused by wooden stakes and railings as well as plain wire, not to mention the horse that got tangled up in electric fencing that wasn't hooked up to a current. If your horse is going to wear a fence, there's not really a good one.
Running electric twine within sheep fencing is an effective and unobtrusive way of deterring them. I'm about to buy a paddock fenced with stock fencing-am just glad it has a good fence tbh :) wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.
