im looking at some stables and grazing today to rent for my 2 ponios.

now my ponies are individually insured 3rd party, fire and theft (or whatever it is) and vets fees, so fully covered.

But do i need more insurance for the stables and grazing that im going to be renting?? they are at the owners house so im guessing not, just need to check.

thanks

If you are just renting I wouldn't have thought so. Depends really on what the owners want you to do. I wouldn't mention it though as it is quite expensive.

It should be covered on their house insurance, they probably wouldn't want you to insure it seperatly as it may draw attention to the fact they are renting out their stables and therefore should be paying Business Rates on them.

You need to check that she has public liability insurance on the fields. As if someone trespasses/ comes on to the land and injures themselves then who do they sue. You as the horse owner who might have left out a fork that they tripped up on or the owner of the land.

Also are the contents of your stables insured for fire - ie if you stack up loads of hay and bedding and then it all burns down - who is responsble and do you get your hay/bedding paid for?

I in theory rent the yard off my partners house. So the livery has financial responsibility for insuring the contents of the barns/stables and my Oh insures the buildings as part of his property.

the land owner is responsible for liability should they eascape onto a public highway, under the animals act. doubt that is covered under household insurance and as you are paying rent it is therfore commercial
