Why do they think they have the right to slag off and make up lies about their paying customers? If i wanted someones opinion on my riding and how i look after my horse, i would ask for it! I don't like being told by other liveries what horrible stuff shes been saying behind my back :( and all because i stood up to her. Everytime i see her talking to another livery i cant help thinking what shes saying about me :( If i could move then i would!

Anyone else have a yard owner who is a spiteful cow or is it just me?

Some people are so opinionated. Yard owners, however should really keep their opinions to themselves, if they want to be left with paying customers. It's totally un-professional. If you decide to ride backwards, it's none of her business. I take it moving isn't an option. Just try to ignore it as much as you can. Hope your situation improves. God love you!!!

is there no way you could move? i would find it difficult to hand over money to someone who sounds that bad

Saying i can't ride and that im ruining my horse, that im spoilt etc. Also making snidedy little comments.

Wow. That does sound very unprofessional behaviour. If she has concerns over your horse (which she has a right to) then she should broach the subject with you and not slag you off to others.

I am so lucky at the yard I am at. Our yard owner is lovely, can be quite abrupt at times, but completely honest and truthful, and can be relied on at all times.

ditto above - my yo has only ever ever said something ot me once - im a first timeowner - i was grooming my bolshy boy at a wall and had got positioned between my very heavy cob and the wall - my yo ran over to move me - i appreciated this.
If ever i have concerns or questions about my horseswelfare i ask them knowing i willget an honest good opinion- they have given me so many tips, not nasty at all - one was when i was using far too much bedding and they told me i was ,just to save me money!
I adore them
I would move if i were you x

Are you sure the YO is actually saying this and that about you - and not that its possibly others who are jealous who may be stirring the pot & playing chinese whispers? (it all adds to paranoia when you think this is happening ;) )
Have you actually heard the YO say unpleasant things?

I'd go direct to YO to quash this if you can and as soon as you can (as you want to stay there) & chat to them quietly & politely, saying how concerned & saddened you are about stories you keep hearing on the yard. Mention no names, but keep things civil.
You never know - if they are a direct speaking person, they might just discuss this sensibly with you.

or is it the other people saying YO is saying stuff because they want you to leave? Paranoid yet?!

Mine is! :D

But I wasn't when I had to boot out a stirring livery who kept making up tales to others... peace was restored for a long while after that 4 yrs ago............so had a bit of experience in chinese whispers & people having paranoia.....

;)

Thing is, you see, after spending all day pandering to people's demands, the last thing I want to do is talk about them, well or badly. If there is a problem, like the standard of horse care somewhat slacking, I have to, though, and it causes me no pleasure.

Ditto :(

Hence its just my Fuzzy's & no lodgers at all now since the new year... it may be quiet, but its so lovely & peaceful......

Sorry OP - good luck in getting it sorted (Martlin/Alligator40, maybe we need a YO section :D )

The YM where i worked had an opinion on everything and everyone, equine or human, and generally would only voice her issues to me, being her dogsbody. She had a particular issue with one woman and i could only think it was because said woman was very highly qualified and was so much nicer and more knowledgable than YM.

To be honest im glad i left when i did, i made a friend there who told me i'd been replaced by a polish girl who had never seen a horse before and almost all the liveries had left because it wasnt safe.
I learned loads working there (most of it forgotten but coming back slowly) but nothing from her.

Our yard owners are wonerful as well :D :D However if I had someone here who I felt was riding angerously, eg not taking care on the road and upsetting local drivers, I would have something to say to them. We don't have liveries and after an unfortunate experience with having a 'lodger' (friends pony) we son't EVER be havinbg any

Aha!

An anology for you...... the YM thinks they are god... the YO IS god! :D

apologies to all gods, YM's and YO's!

I feel your pain, bloody foreigners, eh. :D

Our YM has either turned power mad or started suffering severe pmt since the pony clubbers arrived, we had one yard rule, last one off locked the gates.
Then two comp ponies (pony clubbers) arrived and suddenly there's a list of yard rules and if you don't like them, feel free to leave.
Since we rent the only cottage on the yard this isn't really an option, although it is causing ill feeling among the other three liveries on the yard
from my point of view I would move yards in a heartbeat, we have no grazing,
mixed herds, so my soft gelding is getting badly scarred because the mares are
in season and there's a riggish gelding in the only field

TBH, Liveries are a pain in the arse.
Want everything for nothing, bad mouth all and sundry, think they are always in the right, treat the yard like shyte, think that what they pay covers EVERYTHING and cannot really grasp the concept of DIY..and alledgedly know their rights..laughable really.

not all of us!!!!
Are you a yo - omg id hate to be on your yard!!!!

As i said before i love my yos but i do respect them and their home - i feel lucky they look after my horse living there on their home x

From reading your posts/replies on here, you wouldn't get the chance to be a livery on my yard, love.

wouldnt bloody want to be - yet another reason i like my yos - i couldnt cope with (thinking rapily to avoid word i woudl call you) people like u - you are really (thinking rapidly of another word safe to post here) not likeable !

I have to say my ex-YO was a witch with a capital B, she did not have the balls to ask people anything so she would go around saying another livery had been saying this that and whatever else and it caused immense friction amonst liveries.
I had a horse in the field with PLE and instead of coming and asking me why i had one extremely skinny horse and all the rest had a good covering se rang the RSPCA, who came out and i happily showed them the horse (ok so they did not know what PLE was either) but they were more than happy with all the horse.
Yes after one too many blazing rows i left and it was not a day to blinking soon

The replies slagging off YO's just confirms my view that we will NEVER have another of anyone elses horses on our yard! I wonder how many of them would behave as badly in a Bed and Breakfast place, oh and want 5 star hotel treatment for Youth Hostel Money (me bitter, never) :D
