So what are the policies on your yard regarding:

- Worming
- Turnout
- Passports
- Yard opening/closing times
- etc.....

Just interested to see how relaxed/strict your yards are

I am at a friends, not a livery yard - so will refer back to my previous yard.

All worm on the same day - there was a worming calender on the notice board, and wormers were purchased by the YO.

Turnout - 24/7 from 1st May to 1st October. Daily turnout for around 8 hours in the winter. Horses in groups of between 5 and 10.

Passports were held by the owners.

Opening Times etc. were not dictated. However as a matter of politness anyone arriving before 6.00am would inform YO the day before. People were usually off the yard by 9.00 in the summer and around 7.30/8.00 in the winter.

Dogs were not permitted.

No kids ponies - so no kids!

Worming - everyone follows yard worming plan, yard buys wormers and bills people.

Turnout - 24/7 May - October, in at night over winter. No T/O in really bad weather and horses have to be in by 4 or 4.30 (cant remember which)

Passports - No policy

Open/close - not before 7.30am or after 9pm

Oh and all horses have to be insured 3rd party liability

Personally I think this is quite strict. Worming is fine, but turnout is a bit unfair if you work full time in the winter, as it means you have to have yor horse bought in for you. Also, not allowed on the yard until 7.30 is very late as I start work at 8am. I like to ride in the morning but obviously cant at this yard. I'd prefer to be allowed on yard from 6am. I'm sure there are much stricter places but I'm used to having my own land so it's hard for me

Our yard sorts out our worming programme for us - they are wormed each season and kept in on day of worming.
Horses are all turned out between 8.30-10am - it's up to us when they are brought in but should be before 7pm (feedtime)
YO keeps passports but she'll accept a copy if you would prefer to keep yours
The tack room is unlocked at 7am and is locked after the last person finishes riding. If we have somewhere to go at a peculiar time, it is unlocked specially.
I am VERY lucky with my yard, they try to supply my every need and make life enjoyable where my horse is concerned.
Needless to say, we have a horse in every stable on the block and are now officially full!
xx

Our yard is fairly strict... but it is fair in my minds eye.

Worming - every 6 weeks and all horses have to stay in for 24 hours and fields HAVE to be clear of all poo. Worming is added onto your bill.
Turnout - Can turn out when yard opens & bring in before yard closes. If you want your horse out overnight - it isn't a problem
Yard opening/closing times - Mon - Fri: 6am - 9pm Sat & Sun - 6am - 8pm (Their house is in the middle of the yard)
ETC - need to do 2 wheel barrows of poo a week per horse (3 if you are on grass), have cleaning rotas for tackroom, feedroom, loos, drains & haybarn, you are expected to sweep up outside your stable & keep it tidy, you must have at least 4 inches of shavings (3 if on rubber matting) and wet needs to be taken out everyday.

It all seems quite strict, but I don't really mind though it is a ballache. At the end of the day though, I like it as it is a clean yard free from rats & other vermin and ponio is wormed regularly. The horses interests are at the center of the rules and YO doesn't mind if for example you come back from a show late or need to leave early as long as she knows.

I totally agree with those of you who think 7/7.30 is late. If you have to work I think thats far too late. And what if you have kids to take to school aswell! We're having gates at the entrance of the yard and I was thinking of opening them up at 6am Mon-Fri, and prehaps a bit later at the weekends.

I love my yard.
Worming programme is done by me as mine and YO horses kept seperate.
Turnout is as i want it.Stay out, come in it's my choice.
Passports are held by me but kept in my box at yard for obvious reasons.
Yard opening/closing is also up to me when i visit my horses. My yard is also a working factory so there are always lots of people around in early mornings/late evenings.I do try not to go up so early on sundays as YO and family do deserve some peace.

Out of all the yards i have been on (not that many only three with current horses) it is the best place i have been on.I love it.I do as i wish within reason and there is always someone around if i should ever have a problem. Both of my horses are very happy and settled.

Absolutely love the bedding rule. That would be a wake up call for many on my yard.

We can access from 7am to 9pm winter, and till 10pm in summer officially but in an emergency there is twenty four hour access if needed - would need to alert yard to this though if much out of standard hours.

Worming programme is done by YO, all done together and wormers bought off YO.
Turn out is 24/7 in summer, their allowed out as soon as the ground is good enough and then brought in over night in the winter when the ground gets to wet. We have fatty padocks for those that need them in the summer, and the people who have them have to poo pick them, the rest have a big field with grass. Winter turn out is a nice big field.
Passports - we get ask to show them once a year to show that our vacinations are up to date.
Opening times - Summer 6am-10pm winter 6am-9pm, but if you need to be on the yard outside these time ie if your competing we just let them now we'll be on the yard outside the set times.
No dogs allowed on the yard, and no kids under 14 to be left unattended.

worming- every 6 weeks, YM buys wormer in.
turnout- as and when you want, can stay out all winter if you want.
open/closing times- none specified.
dogs- kept close to you at all times, clear up any mess.
dont have any kids at the yard!
fields are poo picked with a muck sweeper twice a week.
you can book the school for lessons, otherwise just use it.
you have to keep your area swept and tidy.
the SJ paddock is closed in winter (we can jump in the school) or when its rained.
the XC course is open at all times.
no ricing out on a weds and sat morning cos we are in parkland and there is a regular shoot- which is a pain in the arse.

Worming is done by owners, however if your not seen to do it then YO buys and bills you
Turnout - we used to have then out when we wanted in summer and whilst weather allowed, when fields poached it is minimum turnout as we do not have ample grazing (this suits my horse fine as she is very level at being in 24/7 and gets a play in the school daily and exrcised.
Passports - up to owner
Yard opening/ closing - no set rules, however if I am up before 5.30 or going to be back late then I let them know courteously that I will be there.
I have been there so long I have no real rules, however new liveries do

- Worming - we organise our own
- Turnout - mostly in groups - never leave a pony on its own - some individual turnouts
- Passports - must have one but owners keep it themselves (I would NEVER handover my passport)
- Yard opening/closing times - no set times - its a big big yard and owner feeds about 4.30am so all are fed before people arrive. can stay as late as you like but have to ask for key/alarm code so you can lock up
- schools - in one yard we had a booking book and you put your name down - it didnt garentee you got it to yourself but it did mean that if people wanted to come in with you that had to ask
- dogs - well behaved allowed
- poo picking - fields 'hoovered' weekly

generally they yards i have been at have no set 'opening/closing' times - we just fed all in our barns when we arrived if we were first (if you didnt want ponio fed dont leave food out!)
often we had 'worming' announcements ie - all horses must be wormed this week - please either buy from YM or yourself and worm and keep in for 24h.
you have always been expected to keep your areas clean and tidy and can be charged for cleaning if you leave a real mess

Worming - all the horses are done together
Passports - mines at home, although the YO has a photocopy
turnout - all day or all night in summer, then none on site during the winter but there is some 10 mins walk away
Poo picking - once a week during the summer
No set opening times, all the liveries can lock up or unlcok as and when they are want to
XC and SJ available in the summer
school has to be used around the lessons although there are only lessons on 4 days in the week
you also have to keep your own area tidy
no dogs either as the YO dogs live on site and so would fight with any other dogs!

My yard atm is very relaxed.
- Worming - stick to my own regime, YM not involved unless asked to be
- Turnout - 24/7
- Passports - YM never seen my passport and never asked to
- Yard opening/closing times - doesn't really have any, YM doesn't do livery at weekends thats as far as it goes really, yard is open all the time to us
- etc.....fields are poo picked every day by YM religiously which is really good.

- Worming
My friend keeps track of worming and tells YO (and me) when they need done.

- Turnout
We can do whatever we want, I end up doing all the fencing though!

- Passports
Its never been mentioned

- Yard opening/closing times
There was talk of not coming up after 9 at night, but I have plenty of times and they're never said anything (or even noticed)

There are no rules, and what ever rules they did try to make are not enforced! I wish there were rules though, especially about dogs and tidying up

- Worming- all the horses are wormed at the same time, we have notices in the livery diary when there worming. We buy our own, but obviously the RS horses are done at same time

- Turnout- you can turn out as much or little as you want, there are two horses that are strictly to be kept on there own due to an agressive nature

- Passports- they have a photocopy of all the liveries passpors along side a livery contract. Which is signed and also has a list of all that liverys belongings rugs etc with descriptions

- Yard opening/closing times- whenever you want within reason. Some people can be there till 8-9pm they dont mind as long as you lock up after you, clean up after you, and turn off the lights when you go

-The School- droppings must be removed after you have ridden, jumps can be used as you please but must be put away and you have to write in the livery book if you break a pole.

We are a RS/Livery yard so general rules are quite strict just because of the huge insurance they have to pay as it is. We all are required to wear hats when turning out/bringing in. If you are riding a horse that isnt your own to the field the horse must be wearing a bridle. When hacking a mobile phone must be carried. You have to write down if you give your horse additional haylage and weigh it. When you use shavings you must put a record in the book. If you add drugs to feeds you must write a note clearly in the livery book.

Also the usual rules No Smoking, No Dogs, and we have no go areas that clients must not cross red lines etc

Worming - program set up by vets which involves regular worm counts, all horse wormed together with YO buying wormers but they are only wormed about twice a year as worm counts basically zero! New horses must be wormed and left at least 24 hours before being turned out.

Turnout - 24/7 as soon as dry enough (was late this year due to odd weather!) in Winter horses cannot be out when dark, i.e must be turned out after sunrise and must come in before sunset. Means YO turns out and brings in mine as I leave for and come home from work in the dark in winter! :smug:

Passports - generally YO holds them all (in very secure box!) as makes it far easier with vaccinations etc.

Yard opening/closing - depends generally its 7-9 but if need to be there later/earlier for any reason not issue if YO aware. I.e. casual mention that have to be at yard at 5am to get to event suffices!
