Yard Security

Can anyone suggest some security ideas for my neighbours yard? She continually has her yard broken into and either diesel drained from her horsebox, hay bales stolen, and other small items taken from her tack room. Luckily her horses live out and she doesn't keep any tack at the yard.

Obviously it is very unsettling to know that someone has been into the yard and messed around with belongings but she is also getting concerned about the safety of the horses.

The stables are wooden temporary ones and she has padlocks on the tack room door, the yard gate is wrapped with barbed wire and secured with a heavy duty chain and padlock and she has a small alarm in the tack room.

The trouble is the yard is completely out of sight and ear shot of the nearest house so alarms are not heard or security lights seen by anyone.

She has no mains electric so is limited in choices of what she can do with regards CCTV etc.
Any suggestions?

Tell her to get herself a dog. Got 2 guard dogs in our yard and believe me - they know their job.

Ditto - get a dog. But don't put a sign up warning the dog may bite - it is apparently admitting liability when it bites the bottom of the burglar

Get some geese and you can get some fake cameras that look astho they are real they are a great deterent.

For the hay bales - stack them and then cut the string on the bales! They won't take them then, not unless its section by section!

Yes, ditto all above, we have two big g.s.d's and nobody comes near our place, and we live in quite a rough area, and just the sound of them keeps people away, our dogs have saved our sanity, best wishes - jackie
