There is a yard I may be interested in moving to but I've not been able to get hold of YO yet. I have a feeling that it's full so I am thinking about asking if they have a waiting list? It's basically a farm turned livery yard so they may not have anything like that in place.

Question is do you ask to look round before you go on a waiting list (just thinking it could be awkward if you look round, don't like it then have to say you don't want to go on waiting list)? How long has anyone had to wait on a list before a space came up?

Thanks

our yard has a waiting list, most people come and look round first and it is definetly worth doing. Our yards list takes ages but its an unusual yard with not many places. the main explanation for long waiting time is me and an example. I learnt to ride there age 7, loaned a horse there age 10, owned my own horse kept on livery there age 14. Some of the liveries have been at the yard 20 years odd!

Anyone else had to wait weeks/months/years?

I must admit I must have been really lucky in the past - i've never had to wait at all?

At our yard top people on the list will have a minimum 6 month wait most likely. Bottom of the list could be a year + but not sure that is particulary normal!

I once was told by a lady over the phone she would take my details etc and let me know when she had a space. Never heard anything then someone else left my yard to go to the one I was waiting on!!!

I was quite fortunate in that I walked onto a popular yard on the Friday and had a space that day. Tyler was moved on the Saturday.

I then heard from another livery who moved onto the yard a couple of weeks later that she had been on a waiting list for a few weeks, but hadnt gone up to visit it and was down in England.

Some of it is being in the right place at the right time I think.
