Yard water consumption info

Sorry I know this is a zombie thread but didn’t want to start a new one.

How does farm/horse use compare with domestic use?

im trying to work out how much to allow for 10 horses per month but my domestic use for a 3 bed house, is £30 a month which is obviously £360 per year which peeps here are saying is a lot even for a farm

Im thinking to allow £300 a month, is that too much?
Yes I think that’s too much. Mines no more than £200 a year for 5 horses.

Sussex by the sea - was there a 2017 update on the outcome?

Yes it turned out there were two massive leaks underground. We’d reported that we kept hearing the water running through the pipes even when there were no taps on. Eventually they listened and dug up the yard to find them. We haven’t heard any more about the water bill since so fingers crossed it’s all ok now.

It's very much cheaper than house water rates. Our yard was on an agricultural rate and then the water company changed their own structure and we are classed as a business account, even though we aren't a business. However we only pay about £20 a quarter for the yard/land. Hope that helps.

I have about seven and three cows and calves. Ours including the house, we mainly shower is around £300 a quarter, with no drainage rates. Cows drink about three times as much as horses.
We have field water troughs and once had a bill for £700, we had a leak but didn't spot it because of the standing water from the rain. They do a once only reduction in the bill if you can provide readings after the leak is fixed.
A lot of our pipes were laid by the previous farmer owners and run through fields we do not own. Even when we turn the water off at the main supply stopcock there is water going through, we could do with a new service pipe putting in but the last one put in by a neighbour cost £40k to come from the mains in the village.
