I need some warm but reasonably priced yard wear. I need some warm yard boots (no more than £40-£50? ) and a waterproof warm jacket (£80? maybe)

Any suggestions? I want a waterproof jacket I can wear layers underneath too, must have a hood.

Also, where can I get decent good value thermal wear?

Aldi have lots of bargains at the moment. You can get a thermal set for about £15 and they have winter Jods for under £13.

There are some neoprene Wellies on Groupon for under £30 at the moment and I also just bought a light waterproof coat - great for layering - in the sale at Mountain warehouse

In fact I was boasting to my OH only yesterday as I headed out to the yard that everything I was wearing including my boots, coat, jods, buff and underwear all came to less that £80

I buy at the beginning of each winter some hoodies / sweat shirts / t shirts / jogging bottoms / jeans from George (Asda), they range from £6 upwards :) and they see me through to the next winter and beyond in some cases..

Agree with aldis thermal stuff. Also try your outdoor shops that sell the like of regatta and stuff for walkers - I was n today and noticed some nice warm waterproof jackets in the sale. Boots wise I can't advise , I wear the muck boot wellies which are £90 I think. Perhaps I you can get cheaper versions though?

I'm going to go sports direct for long sleeve tops and fleece style jumpers but I was thinking a specific equestrian designed jacket would be better for pockets and vents.

I looked at the link for go outdoors and seems good enough for what I'd need. Just some warm boots for round the yard.

Julesrules it went great thanks :) got there at 1ish and got home at 6. She's a lovely mare. Going to concentrate on building a bond and have some lessons on her and see where it takes me.

I own one proper 'equestrian' waterproof and it doesn't match the ones I have bought for walking/sailing/rowing. My rowing waterproofs in particular ('splash jacket') are light and mesh lined for breathability, plus are long and designed to come right down over my back when at frontstops - and costs less than equestrian ones.

Most of my thermal wear and waterproofs I get as rowing gear - when rowing we need to be kept warm and dry in the long periods sitting around between races, but for the sometimes 20-30mins of hard cardio we need those all-important wicking properties!! Plus I've never had as cosy a tech top as my crew ones. My JHL splash jacket cost me about £50 but bought with the rest of the crew so cheaper, and I get my tech tops for about £15 when Crewroom and Godfrey do their sales.

I really like hi viz work man coats. I bought one four years a go when I got my girl for twenty quid. Its padded, lined, warm, waterproof, has a hood, long sleeves (which is a bonus for my monkey arms) and I ont have to remember to put my tabard on when I ride because im already lit up. Ive just brought a new one yesterday as mine isn't really waterproof no more and its so muddy! I could have washed and reproofed it but for the sake of twenty quid, I couldn't be bothered.

Ive been through a fair amount of boots and its driven me mental so about two years ago I went for a ten pound pair from asda. They lasted two years which is longer than any of the horsey ones Ive brought so Ive just been back to asda toay and picked up another pair.

waterproof trousers on ebay for about seven quid.

Go to primark or asda and just get a load of tracky bottoms, hoodies thick long sleeved tops. Youll be surprised how much you can get for a good price.

Im not so good on gloves although last year I used those ones that have the flap that come down over the fingers. About three quid I think.
