Does anyone know anything about any yards around St Albans/Radlett area?

Have seen a couple and there loads on the internet but always useful to get first hand experiences....

Patchetts seems good (but busy due to all the shows) and South Medburn looks good but would welcome any and all opinions/advice on any yards in the area.

hi,

South medburn is good I'm there at the moment, the facillities are good and they ocaisionally do some yard shows which are alot of fun. The downside is with it being a riding school it does get very busy in the schools at weekends which can be a pain but if you go up at about 6.30pm when the riding school is closed you can ride in whatever school you want and have to yourself unless another livery is up.

Have you looked at crossoaks? I was only there a short time but I LOVED it :)
everyone is so friendly there the facillities may not be so good but its a very very nice yard and the hacking is very good :)

What are you looking for livery wise (DIY, part, full etc)? :)

and are you hot competing types or happy hackers? what size/number/type/sex of horses?

reason being the best yard in that area would depend on those factors eg at my old yard the mares could do 24/7 turnout in village field in summer but not the geldings as they were up at the yard.

I wouldn't recommend south medburn...

Do you mind me asking why not? I'm nothing to do with the yard, don't worry. I rode there many years ago and have recommended it as an RS and livery yard from time to time - if things have changed then I'll stop! From what I remember there were drawbacks (primarily limited t/o) but the horses were beautifully looked after. (pm me if you want). Hope you don't mind me asking :)

We are looking for somewhere in between Part and Full livery really. We are both in full time work so ride in the evenings during week.

Only looking for 1 right now but we are hoping to have a 2nd on the way within the year so it would be 2 horses on the same livery arrangement.

Where we are right now is ok but promise all round turn out and dont deliver and always has shows on meaning we cant use the indoor school basically ever. Also they say they are open until 9 but tend to shoo you off the yard about 8:30 so dont really get full use of the facilities. Basically we would like to resolve those problems!! :D

Are looking at a couple this weekend (Caldecote and Patchetts) but would really welcome any recommendations for any yard. We are into our show jumping (as is our boy) so a yard more suited to that would be great.

Dont know if (good well draining, with lights) outdoor school is OK, and they only do 5 day part livery but I was at Barley Mow on E side of St Albans for 9 years and was happy there (more to the point my horse and then 2 horses were). Small yard (max 10) so dont know if they would have space, but PM me if you would like contact details. YO is BHSAI and also Monty Roberts assoc.

i don't think Patchetts will be right for you as they have shows and training days nearly every day so you might have the same problem with getting access to the schools.

Look at their calendar for December!

Crosslanes is near me and has a good reputation. Corine Nash in chorleywood near crosslanes is a show jumper and does part liveries.

i am moving from bristol to north finchley and have put a deposit down on Elle Dani farm, there isnt a riding school any more, it has a small indoor and 2 outdoor arenas, it has a horsewalker and turnout looked good... i think she has space... i had my heart set on little munden but no spaces at the moment, also what was good is that i am on part livery when i move, however in the summer i have the option for my mare to live out which is what i needed. i dont know what it is like until i move there, but everyone seemed really friendly, so will have to wait and see unless anyone else has any comments!

Drove past Elle Dani yesterday and thought it looked really nice but couldnt find anything out about it anywhere so thought it might be a private yard or something.
Will check it out as it looked very nice.

Have focused mostly so far on places with indoor school because of this horrific weather but could suck it up if necessary for the right place.

Apppreciate everyones help with this....i guess we are the worst type of owners as we want perfection for our boy as he is our first and guess we might be being a little over picky!!!!

Thanks everyone for all your help. We went to Elle Dani Farm this morning and it was just what we were looking for so put a deposit down.

Moving there at the end of March!

Really appreciate everyones help!!!!
