Hi, I am new to this site! I decided to join because whenever I search for yards in Bristol discussions on this site crop up - but they are always old! I am also fairly new to Bristol.

I just wondered if Bristol people could tell me of any yards (DIY with assistance up to full livery without riding) in Bristol please? I have quite a large search area ranging from Gordano/Failand/Portbury, around to North Bristol and back over in an arch around to Winterbourne (as I currently work near Frenchay!)

As many yards as possible please! Oh and also any yards that do 24/7 turnout and who will do daily checks might be useful to know too please!

Thank-you.

im in failand, new manor farm, although it is very hard to get in as we all keep buying new horses, we also have a 24 hr field but again i dont think our YO would take any new people atm, but worth checking out as i think he has a waiting list. were at manor farm on green lane, failand

there is also the yard behind Bushy equine vets (in failand) although possibly even harder to get into.
Ashton Hill Farm, Weston Rd, Failand, Bristol, Avon BS8 3US

i used to be a gatcombe farm in long ashton, although its very small, no arena, and only a few stables (actually is a farm)
this is their shop, also has address/phone number http://www.gatcombefarmshop.co.uk/

there are loads of yards down by us, along racehorse lane, but i have a feeling the dont have the rights to rent them out as a business. although i know someone who definitely rents some down there, but you would have to look as i have no numbers for them.

old warren farm in failand, also has a small xcountry course, again to sure if they have any space.. but have an address, no contact number though,
Old Warren Farm
Portbury Lane
Failand
North Somerset BS20 7SL

there are loads around but it might be a matter of getting to know people in the area
:) good luck

Thank-you very much for your reply! That is brilliant.

What are the facilities like at your yard please? I'm in no rush for moving at all as I like the yard we're at and it has great facilities - but it is a long drive, plus my horse is injured so may need time off (hence the question about 24/7 turnout) its just with rising petrol costs I thought it a good idea to check for nearer yards again.

Is yours DIY or is assistance or part livery available?

Can also recommend the above - they also do overnight livery if you are competing in the area/travelling on to elsewhere

Thanks HOYS2010. I think that is the wrong side of Bristol for me as I work in Frenchay and live in Redland and it always takes me ages to get to South of Bristol as you have to go through the centre!

I'm ok with places off the A370 and A38 though as those seem easier to get to!

On the frenchy side there is leyland court if they have vacancies, grove farm which she dis do 24/7 I was on that yard and really liked the yard and the lady that run it and liverys were all great. There is wapley not sure what thats like. PM me for one to avoid.

I learnt to ride at Wapley and it was good from what I can remember (although I was 9 at the time!). It isn't a riding school any more though and seems to have much improved facilities from when I was there. http://www.wapleystables.co.uk/

Leyland Court - http://www.leylandcourt.com/
Billow (might be a bit far out though) - www.billowlivery.com - their server appears to be down at the moment though!
Hicks Common Livery - I know someone who works in Frenchay who has a horse here. www.hickscommonlivery.co.uk
There is also one on the Badminton road, off the ring road at the roundabout which is opposite The Willy Wicket, past the turning for Winterbourne Down and immediately on the left. Sorry, no idea what the name of that one is but I also know people with horses there!

ours is nothing flashy, on a farm, although mostly horses now.
we have:
  • stables,
  • field,
  • tack room,
  • outdoor arena,
  • undercover ties up area/hayledge/shavings etc
  • 24 hr field, also if you have a stable you can keep your horse out in the 24hr field (well people have in the past)
  • the stables turnout is daytime in the winter and 24hr in summer.
  • the arena can be booked for lessons and such.
  • we have hard standing for trsilers/boxes,
  • lunging arena,
  • really decent off road hacking (and 20 min hack to Ashton Court)
  • old warren farm is a 25 min ride/10 min drive down the road, with a small xcountry course.
i think thats about it :)

Hi, I do full grass livery near Almondsbury which is Frenchay side of Bristol. PM if you want more info.

Also second Leyland Court for livery, thier facilities are good.

Also, Brooke Farm, Mumbles nr Thornbury - although they tend to have a waiting list.

I'm at Grove Farm, there's currently a rather long waiting list. Near us is Westerleigh Stables, Sunnymead (wouldn't be my choice personally), White Cat (again, not my choice) Wapley, and a fair few others.

The yard mentioned near the Willy Wicket is Kendleshire.

Thank-you this is great - I've learnt about so many new places! I know all the places where I used to live - but I grew up there so grew up knowing them - it takes ages to acquire knowledge in a new part of the country!

Thank-you.

I used to have some lessons at Urchinwood, but they don't turn out in the winter so not really ideal for what I am looking for really. Shame because it is a nice yard with lovely facilities.

Will have a look for Terri Hills website.

I work in Filton so up the road from you. When I was looking for a yard I looked at one in Hambrook, it's just been BHS accredited. The stables were lovely and it had a good arena. All year turnout but cant remeber if 24/7.

I can PM you the chap's details if your interested?

I decided to go for a yard closer to home rather than work - depends what works best for you.

The time of the day that you finish/start work is also important as to location - I start work early to avoid the traffic on the ring road to go and see my horse in daylight.

Good luck in your hunt x

Hello all!

Apologies this is not a response to the query, but indeed a further query! I have two gelding ponies (approx 2 years old) currently living in a now very muddy field in Keynsham. Due to it's condition I am now looking to move them as soon as possible, so I hope someone can help!

I am looking for grazing in the area of Marshfield/Chippenham but both being only at a handling stage they do not need amazing facilities, only decent shelter (either natural or stable) and a field not full of mud! Both are very sweet natured and well socialised with other horses/ponies and children and like I say looking for somewhere asap, but only until the latest May 2013.

Thanks so much for your help in advance! :)
