Yarrow/ Milfoil, in hay

There are quite a few patches of yarrow growing in our field, we are going to cut for hay in a couple of weeks time and although i can't find anything that says it is poisenous for horses, i have read that as a herb, it should be taken (humans) in moderation, and never for long periods, because it may cause skin irritations.

Anybody any idea about it??

Yarrow used to be fed to horses to cure them of intestinal worms!


It has quite a pungent smell and I believe it is rather bitter tasting, so that may put some horses off the hay altogether.

I know there is some in my mares field and she won't touch it.

I have'nt been worried about it before in their grazing, but there seems more of it this year.
