After having been a horse girl for much of my life, with a break when my children were younger, and always riding other people's horses, I'm getting my own - it's a loan, so not quite mine, but it's as close as I will get to owning for the foreseeable future, so I'm over the moon! It's not finalised yet, but I just hope everything falls into place. DIY yard, so that will be interesting - I'm going from riding when I like, doing a bit of poo picking but no costs or responsibilities, to being responisble for a horse's welfare. But it also means I can let my daughter ride her (the share arrangement I have now stipulates no children), compete if I want to, go on loooong hacks (my current horse is sadly a bit lame, and only lightly ridden - getting further investigations but not looking good, sadly).

Not only that, but it's a beautiful palomino and a rare breed!! I mean, I don't really care how a horse looks if everything else is great, but it's a bonus for my tiny Instagram account. ;)

So now you can tell me the joys and tribulations of this responsibility, unexpected vet bills, the horrible mud and UK winter weather (which I of course am very aware of). I'll share a photo when/if happens. She's at a different livery just now, but not too far away and I'm hoping she'll arrive in a few weeks. The owner is lovely and will help me get going with her, and then step back, but will visit when we're away. I just hope it works out, this horse is an incredible ride (apparently) and everything I want (right size, fairly forward, easy going).

You lucky thing! I am currently on a horse hunt and failing miserably! I am so excited for the day I can say I have found one.

Surely there's one out there that's just right, hope you find it soon! There's a very small pool of horses I was looking at - as I only want this breed (I'll be less cryptic soon, once it's actually happening, but don't want to jinx it!).

Still haven't heard back from the owner, I really, really hope she's not changing her mind. It was me that approached her (long story - I wouldn't normally ask people if I could loan their horse!), and she thought it's a good idea for several practical and financial reasons, but she does want to ride the horse herself eventually so I'm just hoping she's not in two minds about it.

I found a pony with excellent potential today for full loan and the poor owner was absolutely inundated with messages. She asked for videos of me and my daughter riding and said she will be in touch once she has ploughed through all the replies. It is very unlikely I would imagine but at least for tonight I can dream.

I am sure the owner will be in touch soon :)

At least I don't have any competition, not that I know of, anyway. Best of luck and fingers crossed for us both!

Nothing today, either. I don't really know when she'll be in touch. And I don't want to bother her, don't want to seem toooo keen, haha.
Personally I would give her a week, hopefully that is enough time for her to consider. My boy's owner had been considering a loan for some time and luckily had seen me on the yard helping to rehab someone elses horse, so she could see I was committed, so when I heard that she was looking for someone I immediately said I was interested and we had a two week period of me getting to know him before he agreed on anything formal :)

So, I gave her nine days. Sent a message - breezy, friendly, no pressure but just asking how she's getting on - and nearly 24 hours later, still no reply. My gut feeling tells me she's changed her mind and thinking about a nice way of telling me. I wish people would just be more direct. People at my yard keep asking and really want this lovely mare to join us, which is nice. But right now I'm feeling it's not going to happen after all.

Could you try and arrange a face to face meeting with her to discuss her obvious concerns. It's a big decision for her if she hadn't thought about it before and is probably receiving "advice" from all around her. Has she seen you ride etc. IMO none of these things can be sorted in text messages.
I did meet her for a good hour ten days ago. I thought we got on well. I wish she would just be more communicative. Happy to meet her again any time, I will suggest that (at least by sending another message that might prompt her to respond). Could be that she has a really good excuse for not responding to me, but she could just say "sorry I haven't replied yet, I've been really busy/I'll etc but will get back to you very soon."

I would maybe send a message at the weekend saying you understand that maybe she has changed her mind but could she just let you know so you can look into other opportunities, this way you give her the get out opportunity and if that is ignored then that would just be rude.
Yup, she'd changed her mind. Crying now. 😢
So sorry it wasn't meant to be and you need to find a loan or share where the other person communicates with you as that is so important.

I've got very happy news. I am pinching myself - we are importing a horse, due to arrive after Christmas.

I'll share more soon, although we've paid and signed the contract, after all my bad luck recently I'm worried about jinxing it!
Very exciting 🥰
