Next week :D

Meant to be sunny towards the end of the week, so hopefully planning around Thursday to take the ponies to the beach for the day with a couple of friends.

Fun fun fun! Something I've wanted to do again for ages! I've gone to the beach a few times on hired ponies, but never with my own!

Fun fun fun! SO excited!

Bareback galloping and sea wading here we come :D

Wow you are so lucky! I went on a beach ride in Malaysia once but the people at the stables really didn't have a clue and it ended up being pretty miserable!

I went today - go several times a month... If I were you, I'd walk one way and canter back over the same sand. The going can be very variable from rock hard, to boggy, deep or very uneven. Lately we have encountered odd and unexpected soft spots where one leg only has sunk in badly :( Fortunately, we were walking.

Other than that, it's a wonderful place to be :)

Thanks Brighteyes! Very good advice, will do that :) We're about an hour and a half or so from the nearest beach, so it'll be a novelty for us.

Out of curiosity, how far out do you ever wade to in the water?

I always like the idea of the beach but find it pretty dull once we're there.
There are usually heaps of people, dogs, kites and kite surfers . Far from relaxing
Hope you enjoy it and beware of the big puddles, they can actually be deep enough to swallow the whole horse.
Now that was an exciting trip :D:D

Not with me, but there is a picture of Benson with his owner, many years ago. All you can see is his head out of the water!

This is really the only time I wish I was still riding, when others are going to the beach.:o:o

To your saddle flaps! I'm not so brave, really. The breaking waves can startle a horse so get them used to it rather than trying to barge in. Weird sensation walking along the edge parallel to the shore with the tide going in and out - makes you quite dizzy!

Brean and Berrows [sp?] :) Never been, but nearest one!

Aaaah! Hmm well we've got leather tack and cobs....so bareback it'll be for any water shenanigans :p Maybe up to our knees then lol.

I used to take my mare swimming out in the resi/water park back near home....not the same I know as no tides/waves, but was so much fun. She looooves water. And the other cob we're taking...well, he wouldn't care about a bomb going off and has no problem with water, so he shouldn't be an issue. 3rd cob if he goes....hates water.....so he shall be the interesting one.......lol
