I came home from the yard tonight to discover that my hay hutch (medium size

) had been delivered, and left with the neighbours, yay

However, slight problem, I had it delivered to my home address, and I can't fit it in my fiesta... or through my front door for that matter!

Ooops!

LOL! I *think* the plan is to get it as far in as we can into my mother's car (only a slightly more spacious fiesta than mine

), and then tie the boot down with baler twine

*note to self, when I order the other one, get it delivered to the yard*

youre going to have to get pics put up of the transportation lol

are they really that huge? genuine question - i didnt realise they were that big. i opted for sheep ring feeders so i could roll a bale of hay out rather than fill the hutches

I'm another who would like to hear how you get on with the hutch (er not only the transportation

)as I might be interested in buying one too. Have fun with the journey to your yard!

Hi Flowerlady. I know the manufacturer, her farm was next to the farm I kept my horses on untill July this year (she's not a friend, I just know her). She uses them for her horses which I always think is a good indication. I'm going to get one soon. I know a few people locally who have them and they love them.

We had the Robinsons corner hay mangers. At £110 each, not cheap, but they worked well. Just sold them on ebay at half that price, as we've moved yards and no longer use them. Would also like to see pics of how you get it up to the yard

I got mine a couple of weeks ago, it's the large size for four to share.
So far I think it is brilliant and so do the ponies. The only thing I would change is to be clearer where the opening bit is at the top. You have to line up two markers and then it comes off like a biscuit tin. I think I will paint white lines where the markers are as you could never see them in the dark.
I have a pic though it was a gloomy twilight, but will give you the idea.

I got my medium one a couple of weeks ago and think it is great! However, I use it for the two sh*tlands who have access to the yard as well as their boudoir at night and I only put 1 1/2 secs in there and it is soaked so they have to stick their heads through the holes to reach the hay when there isnt much left (i dont want to put any more in or they will gorge themselves!)

So if it was a larger horse would he not be able to get it very well

Please excuse me for asking but if you soak the hay do you need to put it in these? or is it to stop it blowing away?

Right, sorry for the slow response, but I was away for the weekend. Hay hutch is now at the yard, (mother took it in her car with the boot tied down, I'm afraid I wasn't there to take any pics

) and haylage is being delivered today or tomorrow, so I shall report back soon once I've put it into action.

I can see that for small amounts of forage then it would get rather "lost" in there, making it hard for the horses to get to it, but as mine are going to be on ab lib then it's not likely to be a problem. I *may* buy a small one when I buy the next one (horses are having to be separated as now she's out of work then I'm only giving Be hay, not haylage this winter).

One way of ensuring that smaller amounts of hay don't get 'lost' in the centre is to put a large empty supplement tub (or trug) with a weight in it right in the middle of the hutch, and then place the hay round the outside of that.

I had a Hayhutch right through last winter and thought it was a godsend.
