Some of you might have seen my post yesterday about me basically feeling really nervous about riding my horse again (fairly uncommon for me) following him kicking me in the ribs when having a paddy on lunge on Monday. He has been bucking a lot recently when ridden (back etc all fine)- i have concluded it's frustration caused by lack of turnout, and also him taking the p!ss as he knows when I'm not feeling confident.
Soo I went to ride this evening, and took him out to the arena..he was already a bit tense and spooky as the generator for the lights makes a really loud noise. He messed around as I was getting on- I had planned to slowly and gently slide on, but instead ended up making a really inelegant leap as he sidled away as i was getting on....cue him broncing, me with no stirrups

quite often when he bucks i fall straight off

but this time, I had my BP on as i was expecting tantrums, and that itself made me feel more relaxed...and i was actually able to sit deep, pull his head up and kick on

! Which i can never do, as i said before lol i can't sit bucks, i fall off.

Walked for about 15 mins to calm us both down (he was both shocked that i stayed on and fuming coz it meant he didn't get out of work

) and then went to trot..cue more bucking, and some twisting too

managed to stay on then too!
Even did a fairly sizeable jump, which i was expecting bucks after, and i was not disappointed

but by some miracle managed to stay on then too, and by now he was out of ideas, and behaved perfectly from then on

Here's hoping I've cracked it, and we'll be back on form soon

Sorry for a very self-satisfied post, but I really was so nervous, and am just so pleased

As a bit of a nervous person myself so i know how much it boosts your confidence when you manage to over come something!

Excellent! Sounds just like my boy when we first got him. He used to get me off every time bucking. When I learned to sit them he gave up!

Very well done, sounds scarey and I'm impressed you went on to jump after he had been so naughty with you.

Well, it was more because I know he concentrates when he jumps as he enjoys and so was very unlikely to fool around on the approach

beauchamps- yes, all usual checks including back done regularly.
Dutch- feed has been adjusted accordingly since he's been in- low energy and high calorie as he doesn't keep weight that well

I'm pretty certain it's just him having some pent up energy from being in, and also him picking up on my nerves and 'testing' me.
Thanks for congrats everyone
