My hacking buddy has just left to go travelling round the world. I mean who wants to go to Australia when you could do the big block with me???? ;) mr W has to be dragged out round the block kicking and screaming!

I'm looking for someone to hack out with me as little or as often as they like, ideally at least once a week.

Our horses are competition horses but are good in all types of traffic and sane so needs to be a quiet confident rider.

I can't pay but I make a lovely lunch and can talk for England! (not sure if that's a good or a bad thing ;))

No yard duties and we can even tack up and untack for you.

Am I being unrealistic? If you think it's possible how would you go about finding someone?

Ha ha! We have used similar people to help in the past! Have had a lot of fun! Now all friends! Current fantastic friend is pregnant so we will soon be in a similar position again!

When I was horseless in my first job I used to do this for a local eventing yard - bonus for me was I got to ride 3/4* horses. Bonus for them was that they got someone competent and free to do the boring roadwork bits for them. Sounds lovely, when do I start? :p (and I don't even like hacking!).

ps. we've got a 'big block' here too. Is it ubiquitous?

Sounds like a fantastic offer! If I didn't have two of my own in the wrong direction (Tonbridge) and have to work in London Monday to Friday I would love to join you.

Hope you find someone - I can just imagine the expression on Mr Worried's face as you persuade him to come hacking ;)

Lol! Think every yard has a big and a small... And I don't mean the kid's programme on cbeebies ;)

Gamebird, Did you approach them? Im at a loss as to how to find someone suitable. I'm biased but our horses are really lovely and we live in a beautiful part of Kent. They hack on their own too so for the right jockey there is lots of riding, my hacking buddy had told me to explain its just a temporary position till she returns ;)

V how did you find them?

Well.... My mum and I were hacking through a local village. Riding and leading. And this lady pulls over and offers her services as a free rider! We said ok! And she has introduced us to 2 more friends who also ride out!

However I think it a case of chatting around until a friend of a friend knows someone! It can be a struggle though finding people with more flexible work hrs!

Ah were in Kent are you? I really need some one with a sensible horse i could hack with i have a lovely young horse but no friends with sensible horses to ride out with. May be if you could let me box to you and ride out i could return the favor and help with yours? Im just off j8 of the m20 hollingbourne

They were one of my clients at work and we got chatting one day. All very word of mouth I'm afraid.

I posted a similar thread only a few days ago. I was going to suggest Suziq but I see she's already responded. I think we need some sort of hacking dating website.... now there's a business plan. ;)

Thanks Niki - I'd probably need to box mine over and do a load at the same time, which might be a bit more hassle than Worried1 needs ;) Plus my house is pretty much bang in the middle of where she is and where my horses are so there'd be a lot of driving around.... Not unmanageable though if the circumstances / weather etc were right...

I totally agree that a hacking dating website would be brilliant - it would be great to have people to go and visit on free weekends :)

I don't mind setting something up, but it would be good to have other admin people (maybe one per county/region) as well.

ETA although it may be best not to include the words 'hacker' or 'hacking' in the title in case people think it's about getting into computers systems.

When I was at Uni I used to go and ride some horses for a lady. Somehow I had ended up fence judging for a RC HT - no idea how that happened, and the lady who organised it put me in touch with the Lady I ended up riding for. Being a student I had loads of spare time :)

If you have a Uni near you put an advert up somewhere? Contact their RC?

Have emailed both Kent and Canterbury which have Medway campuses, great idea thank you. :)

Have liked and posted a link on my Fb page. A brilliant idea, Rosie couldn't cope without her team of hacking helpers - all found by word of mouth somehow.
